possibly a silly question

I am not currently a churchgoer, although I was in my younger days. I ended up drifting away from my faith and since things have happened - I would really like to speak to a vicar about them, but I don't know where to find one, and googling "how to talk to a vicar" assumes a relationship with one already, which I don't have!

How do I find one, which sounds ridiculous I know, but I obviously can't really walk into a church and announce myself!

If you go to a church service, there will usually be a clergy person taking it. If you hang around afterwards, you can ask them to schedule a time for you to come and talk.

Or go to the main Sunday service and join in with the tea & biscuits afterwards - chances are someone will introduce themselves and you can say you were hoping to get a word with the vicar.

Or - some places have a 'vestry hour' or similar on their noticeboard, if you don't want to go to a service at this stage.

People do just walk into churches and introduce themselves! Clergy are used to it!

Thanks, I might try that, although getting to a church service may prove difficult (working weekends!)

Check on the noticeboard - they may have one in the evening midweek, or as I say some sort of vestry times when they are 'available' to discuss things.

All vicars can be emailed as far as I know if that would suit you better.

I'm not sure, really ... I've tried to find a local one but the websites don't seem very informative, which is a shame.

I could email the vicar at the last church I attended regularly (12 years ago ) but it's miles and miles away.

You could email him and either ask him whatever it is. Or ask him for the email/address of a nearer one. He will have some sort of church directory.

You could try a church near you which should have contact information for all the CofE churches in your area.

If you find a church from 'a church near you' that Niminypiminy suggests they will likely have a contact us part of the website which will have a phone or email form.

It might be that www.rejesus.co.uk might have some answers to some questions.

If it doesn't have to be a C of E vicar, you could find a church minister from a non-conformist church (Baptist, United Reformed, Methodist etc). They are often smaller, in my experience.

And the Catholics are also always available, Catholic churches usually have daily Mass so you can speak with someone during the week.either a priest or parishioner working in a pastoral ministry. Whichever you are more comfortable with.
