Sikh bereavement traditions- please advise what's appropriate for me as an acquaintance

I've looked online but would appreciate any advice.

A Sikh acquaintance has suffered a bereavement (their parent). I'd like to send my respects but don't know what's appropriate, and the thought of making an unintentional faux pas is on my mind. For example should I send a condolence card? What sort of thing would I write? I know where the acquaintance lives, but don't know the family member who died.

So, what's appropriate for a non-Sikh acquaintance to do, to show their respects?

I have been in this situation and sent a condolence card within which I wrote a few words of how I was sorry for their loss, being there for my friend and the passage of time healing, the usual words of comfort.
If I had been aware at the time I may have written something referencing this:

I don't thinkyou need to write with a "sikh" viewpoint- if you are not religious.
I would steer clear from trying to think of somethine suitable from a sikh point of veiw.

Religion or not death affects us all in similar ways.
A simple card with a few words "sorry for your loss, or thinking of you at this time" would suffice.

I wouldn't attempt to write from a Sikh viewpoint. I thought someone may know what's appropriate e.g. card / flowers / general sentiment etc.
