Does anyone know this Bible verse?

Hello
Is there a verse in the Bible where Jesus says that if someone does good they are really doing it in His name and if someone does bad in His name they are not doing it for Him at all? I've paraphrased terribly and I can't even remember if the verse exists or if I've just imagined it.
Thanks

You might be thinking of the parable of the sheep and the goats, Matthew 25. 'For what you did to the least of these my brothers and sisters, you did to me.'

Hmmm. It does sound familiar. The closest I can get is John 15 where he says no-one can bear fruit unless they remain in the vine.

Which also reminds me of Matthew 7... about good trees producing good fruit and bad trees producing bad fruit - by their fruit you will know them (false prophets).

also reminds me of
Some will call me Lord Lord but I will not know them

would have to google to get the reference

Many thanks, I'll look up all those references

It's what Aslan says quite specifically in the C. S. Lewis books and I always assumed it was based on a specific verse in the bible. I can't put my finger on which one either and now I come to think about it I don't think it is - not in so many words anyway.

mavornia · 12/05/2014 20:02

Oh goodness, maybe it was Aslan I was thinking of all along!

I love that bit in The Last Battle where the Calormene (is that right??) soldier goes through to the land within the stable.

You might be thinking of Luke 9.50 / mark 9.48-50

49 “Master,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us.”

50 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said, “for whoever is not against you is for you.”

I love that too Charlotte, and when Aslan says that the good things the Calormene was doing in the name of Tash were really done in the Name of Aslan.

Could it be this one OP?

Matthew 7:21-23 ESV

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
