Bible story about telling the truth

Hi. For an act of CW this week for an inspection, I need a bible story based on how hard it is to tell the truth. Children will be performing a dance based on 'Honesty' by billy joel and I need a bible story to follow it. I have gone through the parables etc, used google, to no avail. I have been looking at all the prophets but so far they are sadly unpersecuted for their truth telling. I must be missing something. I use Values for Life to plan worship but the Truthfulness topic doesn't quite fit with the kind of activity I need. Any ideas?

Would the story of Shadrach, Mesach and Abednego do? They told the truth despite the penalty being certain death.

What age? Primary? The parable of the two sons might be adaptable to your purpose? The first son says he will help his father but doesn't follow through thus not doing what he said he would? Not keeping his word? Will have more of a think.

Annanias and Saphira told a lie and we're struck down.

Was it Moses that claimed to have brought water out of the Rock and because of that didn't see the promised land

Not a story but psalm 15 all about truth telling

Did not Abraham lie about Sarah being his wife? I can't remember what the consequences were

Lots of these seem to be 'tell a lie and bad things happen' rather than 'it's good to tell the truth' though. I'll think harder!

Or woman with the issue of blood story (Mark 5). She was not meant to speak to Jesus let alone touch him but has to admit she was the one who touched his cloak. And is therefore healed.

Esther - she could've been killed for admitting who her people were!

LaBelleDameSansPatience · 28/04/2014 21:26

Goodness, yes, great ideas! Shouldhave thought of Esther and the woman who touched Jesus. Never heard of Annanias and Saphira. Blush

Oops! Completely forgot about St. Peter denying he knew Jesus.

Bizarre really when the bible is full of untruths and lies- the garden of Eden, Noah and the flood etc.

We have decided to go with Nathan confronting David with the truth about his behaviour ...
