Baptism hymns

We are getting our ds baptised In a couple of months. We are meeting the Revd on Sunday and he has asked us to have a think on any hymns or reading we may like.
To be honest we are not as regular church goers as we would like, both workings shifts but we do go when we can.
I would really appreciate any suggestions on possible hymns we could use, or what you had at your dcs baptisms/christening.
I haven't been to a baptism in a number of years and really want to pick something that is appropriate. Many thanks.

Onward Christian soldiers, in preparation for terrible twos

All things bright and beautifyl , easy to sing so more people will sing and its spring and the start of life

Yeah I would quite like so,etching easy to sing. It's a scottish episcopal church if that makes any difference btw.
I like this little light of mine and also one more step along the world I go but not sure if they are too school-ish.

Be Thou My Vision -- well known, easy to sing and very appropriate

You haven't mentioned your son's preferences, so I assume he's just a baby? Even so, are you looking for something fairly child-oriented?

I like Seek ye first the kingdom of God.
Shine, Jesus, Shine is a cheery hymn you can give some welly to.
O thou who camest from above is very spiritual feeling, good for a baptism -- but perhaps too adult?
When I was little my favourite hymn was Colours of day.

I also think your suggestions are fine! Go with them if that's what you like!

SweetPeaPods · 15/02/2014 12:37

Yes, he is only 8months.
Thank you for all your suggestions very much appreciated.

The one that came to my mind was 'lord of all hopefulness', which I think goes to the same tune as 'be thou my vision'.

Gentle Jesus meek and mild? - old fashioned language, probably why I like it.

Jesus, friend of little children?
