I'd like to give dd a Bible for her christening. I don't want a children's one, or a collection of stories - I want a proper Bible for when she's an adult, but a nice, hardback edition with an attractive cover to commemorate the occasion. I'd like a NIV one if possible. Any ideas? Lots on amazon but the reviews are all the same regardless of edition so not very helpful!

I think you would need to go to a Christian bookshop and have a look at a selection of Bibles as this is very much about how the book feels and looks. If there isn't a Christian bookshop you could try your local cathedral as they usually have a good gift shop/bookshop.

It is a lovely idea and I wish I could me more specific.

can i suggest instead of hardback you get one on bible paper in leather as they are bound better and will last longer and spine less likely to break if dropped ones with zips are also good for carriage,

in this case i would advise against white but get black or dark red leather not a youth edition or similar as the modern references will be out of date by then the above will cost about £20

you can also get them in less traditional colours like pale blue and chocolate etc

Leather ones are really nice. I would also recommend asking at your local Christian bookshop. What about a Good News Bible? They often come with attractive covers.
