Ok, this is a bit vague but I really want to find this hymn.
We were at the family service today and we sung such a beautiful song that I was moved to tears. I'd really like to find out what one it was so I can get a copy.
I ave no idea what the title was or who wrote it.
There was a line in there about God being in this place all around us and verses of walking down to the park and through the town.
Any ideas?

Your description reminds me of two hymns:

Gather Us In
1.
Here in this place, new light is streaming,
now is the darkness vanished away.
See, in this space, our fears and our dreamings,
brought here to you in the light of this day.
Gather us in - the lost and forsaken,
gather us in - the blind and the lame.
Call to us now, and we shall awaken,
we shall arise at the sound of our name.

We are the young - our lives are a mystery,
we are the old - who yearn for your face.
We have been sung throughout all of history,
called to be light to the whole human race.
Gather us in - the rich and the haughty,
gather us in - the proud and the strong.
Give us a heart so meek and so lowly,
give us the courage to enter the song.

Here we will take the wine and the water,
here we will take the bread of new birth.
Here you shall call your sons and your daughters,
call us anew to be salt for the earth.
Give us to drink the wine of compassion,
give us to eat the bread that is you.
Nourish us well, and teach us to fashion
lives that are holy and hearts that are true.

Not in the dark of buildings confining,
not in some heaven, light years away,
but here in this place, the new light is shining;
now is the Kingdom, now is the day.
Gather us in - and hold us forever,
gather us in - and make us your own.
Gather us in - all peoples together,
fire of love in our flesh and our bone.

And -

Colours of Day

Colours of day dawn into the mind Lyrics

Colours of day dawn into the mind,
The sun has come up, the night is behind.
Go down in the city, into the street,
And let's give the message to the people we meet

So light up the fire and let the flame burn,
Open the door, let Jesus return,
Take seeds of His Spirit, let the fruit grow,
Tell the people of Jesus, let His love show.

Go through the park, on into the town;
The sun still shines on, it never goes down.
The light of the world is risen again;
The people of darkness are needing a friend.

Refrain

Open your eyes, look into the sky,
The darkness has come, the sun came to die,
The evening draws on, the sun disappears,
But Jesus is living, His Spirit is near.

Refrain
Used with permission

Is it either of those?

We sang 'Colours of Day' on Sunday and I'd forgotten how good it is.

aGnotherGnu · 18/11/2013 07:27

We did too. Either a popular choice, or we were all at the same service :o

popmusic84 · 18/11/2013 10:50

Reminds me of my childhood.

niminypiminy · 18/11/2013 11:08

And I've sung it recently too.

I had a worship collection on cassette once back in the day and that song was on it done in a Mammas and Pappas style!

it was good actually.

that hymn always reminds me of school assemblies, that one and Autumn days when the something is jewelled....
