feeling more and more restless

Am regular and NC as I feel daft for feeling like this.

Over the last few months, I've been feeling more and more restless with life, like I'm searching for something but don't know what I am looking for. The feeling just keeps getting stronger. I am generally happy in life, lovely DH and DC's.

Any suggestions for what I can do to 'find' whatever it is I'm looking for?

Get a job.
Find a hobby.
Start running.

How old are you?

IndigoBarbie · 06/11/2013 21:04

Do you feel like you missed out on something?
Sometimes the answer appears when you take your mind off the search.

RestlessInRife · 06/11/2013 21:11

  • Have a full time job.
  • Have different hobbies which I am finding more time to enjoy as DC's are getting older and less dependent.
  • not a chance with running - would set an earthquake off somewhere if I tried Grin
  • am 40

Don't feel that I have missed out on anything, the feeling isn't that I'm missing something, more that I need to do something to be more fulfilled with life. It's almost like I'm at a crossroads and should know what I should but I don't. Sounds daft hence the NC

I believe it's called a 'midlife crisis' Grin

Yes, you can take up running. I did at nearly 39.

IndigoBarbie · 06/11/2013 21:28

You said you were generally happy with life. If you could look at where you are unhappy, would this give pointers as to what you would need to change to create a more fulfilled feeling for you?
Try not to judge yourself against others who have lovely DH, lovely DCs and are 40 - it's not all about what others have, it's more important for you to find the balance for yourself.
I agree with the running, it's one of the most amazing feelings to be able to do this, and to get some headspace, and fresh air. Swimming??

I guess since you have posted in this forum you are wondering about whether a spiritual dimension is missing in your life? If you are not religious some people find that connection with others via charity work/volunteering or maybe environmental work or another cause that is important to you.

thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts · 07/11/2013 08:05

I suppose it comes down to what you believe life is all about and midlife is often a point where people revaluate where they have come from and where they are going if only because children have grown up a bit and you aren't watching for toddlers trying to find new ways to injure themselves.

You say that you are generally happy. So does that mean that happiness is what is important to you? Being happy is one of the dominant themes of post industrial, post Christian, post modern culture and maybe you are fine with that. But is that enough?

So as you have posted here is this a philosophical question or a spiritual one - or both?

Italiangreyhound · 07/11/2013 17:01

Restless what does NC mean?

Do you think you might be wanting to know more about God?

springytick · 08/11/2013 19:53

oooh that sounds exciting!

Go with it. See where it leads Smile

Do you want to talk about it here? You may get a bit bashed if you do (sorry, folks. I find it a bit religious in here - and Im a christian). You could gird your loins and try AIBU - you may get a good hearing. But then again, you may not... luck of the draw! (Friday nights are notoriously treacherous on AIBU so you could hold off and try a bland day...)

NC means name-change Italian.

What are the options at the crossroad OP?

springytick · 08/11/2013 20:08

That said, if you've posted here then you're looking for something spiritual, I assume...
