how to pick god parents?

we are trying to chose god parents for our DT

how do you pick?
how many did you have?

the traditional two men, one woman isn't working with us

what do you do when you can't decide and have reached stalemate?

I chose based on two things- that they had a strong connection with DS and cared about him (and in the case of the two godmothers we chose, they dote on him as much as I do) and the other thing that was important to me was knowing that they would sincerely pray for DS at times of need

DS has two godmothers and one godfather, vicar was fine with that

My DS has three: two godmothers and a godfather. Two are brother and sister, very old friends of mine, the other is a close friend who has supported me through some tricky times. I felt that each of them had something different to offer my son in the way of guidance and they're a good mix.

Some churches do limit the number but generally if they do this they cap it at three as that's usual.

he also wants an old friend of his, nothing against her but she's his mothers age and not particularly religious

I am not sure that many would be allowed.

Choose people who will be a source of positivity and guidance. It doesn't matter if they are religious these days really. Most vicars/priests accept that a lot of people aren't.

I have 4dc they all have 5 each! All good friends who will help them along in their faith!

They each have 2 couples and then a single but that's just how it worked out at the time.

One of the couples are god parents to all of them

We chose members of our church family.

it may not matter if they are proved religious, but at the christening they have to stand up and promise to guide the child in matters of faith. Are they happy to do this?

godparents have to stand up and make vows that THEY believe in God.

thats fairly central to the whole duty as GODparents......

We are Catholic and we chose Godparents for all our children who were practicing Catholics, really loved Jesus and their faith and loved our children. We did not chose family members as our children would already have them in their lives automatically, we choose people who could be an extension of family and would model a beautiful Christian life to our children.
