What is a Congregational Church?

We have recently moved to a new area and churches seem a little thin on the ground in our immediate area.

There is a Methodist and a v traditional C of E but I'm looking for something more laid back. There is a Congregational Church but u know nothing about them - any wisdom to impart?

Does this help?

Protestant/Evangelical very democratic.

They exist in Scotland separate from the CoS, but fairly Presbyterian in theology, although not in governance.

In England, they have mostly combined with Presbyterians to form the United Church.

I imagine that each individual Congregational church will have its own character, so would say to go along and see for yourself.
