Why doesnt anyone think of all the innocent people when there's war?

Watching the news. So sad, seeing all the women and children evacuating Syria. Really heartbreaking.

Of course it happens in any war there's ever been.
Why do people have to fight?
For power? money? Greed?

All those innocents who don't seem to matter. (sorry, a downer for a Friday night, just made me so upset, needed a shoulder to cry on).

Was dithering posting this in Chat or Spiritual site. How is all this allowed to happen? Where's God in all of this?

Thinking about the lyrics to 'harvest for the world'. So apt.

"Why"? Have you read nothing about what is going on in Syria? It's only been 2.5 years.

What makes you so sure that there is a God?

expatinscotland · 23/08/2013 20:41

Where's God? Well, he/she doesn't exist.

valiumredhead · 23/08/2013 20:52

There have always been wars.

God?Confused

SilverSixpence · 23/08/2013 21:00

Wow lovely responses so far. I'd post in religion/spirituality if you

SilverSixpence · 23/08/2013 21:00

Want more of a philosophical discussion.

12thDoctorsCompanion · 23/08/2013 21:01

cote yes I know its been going on a long time, I just happened to catch the latest on the news (don't watch the news much, but caught it today.) You know it's going on but when you really see it for yourself IFKWIM.
My question was about the innocents really.

And I believe in God the Creator, just really struggle with the loving and just part I suppose.

And I study history too so know there have always been wars .Sad.

Silver yes, you're right,I should have posted there. How can I transfer this thread without starting all over again?

OP posts:
CoteDAzur · 23/08/2013 21:06

Or you could post it in Music, where you can compare song lyrics with other like-minded souls? Smile

prissyenglisharriviste · 23/08/2013 21:09

What makes you think people don't think about the innocents? Quite often they are used deliberately as human shields...

It's nowt to with any god. Just the heartlessness of individuals - although I'm sure they would argue they were fighting from the heart.

I like 'the intimate history of killing' as a text. Interesting stuff. Can't remember who it's by, Joanna someone?

Syria isn't a case of two national armies fighting for a wage and a bunch of innocent civilians in the way... it's people fighting for their homes, lives, families, futures.... the vast majority of them wouldn't be doing it if they believed there was any other way.

War is complicated. Particularly when it's civil war.

CrabbyBigBottom · 23/08/2013 21:16

What a load of mean replies! Hmm

I don't believe in a god at all 12th, but I totally understand that horror you seem to be feeling at how viciously brutal humans can be to humans and everything else. I wish I had some answers but sadly I don't. I feel that pain though. x

CrabbyBigBottom · 23/08/2013 21:17

Sorry posted a bit late there -not all replies mean at all. Blush

CoteDAzur · 23/08/2013 21:19

People are so mean here. Let's kiss each other and make it better x

12thDoctorsCompanion · 23/08/2013 21:22

Thanks Crabby, thats exactly what I mean.

OP posts:
oinkling · 23/08/2013 21:26

I do. Regardless of politics, religion, fate, and all those other things we can blame stuff on, it's still people that are suffering and I'm not sure how anyone could ignore that. It seems really simple to me.

It doesn't matter so much "why", it just matters that it "is".

SilverSixpence · 23/08/2013 21:33

Cote not sure what you are hoping to add to the thread. A single murder of a child in this country would be greeted (rightly) with horror and if someone wants to discuss the murder of hundreds if not thousands of innocent children elsewhere then we should just dismiss it?

We should try and understand why it happens - its not just as simple as a conflict over power/territory somewhere too far to worry about. Our country and others (through membership of the UN) must bear some responsibility for failing to stop what's happening. even if we can't do anything personally, expressing sadness and sympathy for innocent victims is natural and shouldn't be mocked.

12th just report your post and ask for it to be moved and hopefully the cynics will move on to another thread.

12thDoctorsCompanion · 23/08/2013 21:39

Thanks too, Silver that was a brilliant post you just did. Thanks.
we're having a discussion, not starting another conflict!

OP posts:
slenderman · 23/08/2013 21:43

it just makes me feel so helpless. i really don't know what can be done to sort this out. people are bloody crazy.

it's a mad world.

CoteDAzur · 23/08/2013 21:44

Of course deaths of thousands shouldn't be "dismissed". That isn't what I have done at all.

I have a slight problem with bringing up this matter with zero knowledge & understanding, in terms of cheesy song lyrics, and wondering why oh why they fight.

Another slight problem with calling us meanies and ending her post with a "x", which was my latest "contribution to the thread", since you're asking.

OliviaMMumsnet · 23/08/2013 21:45

Hallo We've moved this to the religion topic as requested.

12thDoctorsCompanion · 23/08/2013 21:46

Just asked HQ to move this to Spiritual, if anyone wants to continue this discussion. Smile

OP posts:
12thDoctorsCompanion · 23/08/2013 21:54

Thanks HQ.

As for 'Harvest for the world' lyrics, some songs are written as political/philosophical/meaningful statements, theyre not all 'bonkers' 'blurred lines', 'summer holiday',she loves you yeh yeh yeh.'

OP posts:
CoteDAzur · 23/08/2013 22:29

I have actually read the lyrics of that song before I posted on this thread, and sorry but it ain't Pink Floyd.

Thanks for the penetrating observation that some songs are written "as political/philosophical/meaningful statements", though Smile

CoteDAzur · 23/08/2013 22:30

Anyway, you clearly have internet access. Why don't you read up a little about the Syrian conflict and then we can talk about what is going on there and why, without seeking enlightenment from pop songs Smile
