I've never visited this section before but does prayer work?

Devastating news within my family circle (not my immediate family) and I'm so heartbroken for the parents.

I can't do anything to help.

Should I pray? Will it achieve anything?

This may sound strange but I'm not sure what I should pray.

Sorry, am aware I'm not making much sense.

What HIH said. This board is not restricted to those who believe in some or other imaginary being, and the OP asked an open question. I don't go on threads discussing points of doctrine or whatever, but general threads are open to all.

I suppose it can help your own mental state and that of others if they know you are praying. But as to the question of whether it works on affecting the outcome, IME, no.

If you feel like praying, then do. If you don't, then don't and don't feel guilty about that.

And what MrsK said. Sorry for your loss. My daughter died last year, too.

Totally agree Expat, and thank you. I know how hard the last year must have been for you after the death of your beautiful daughter - and how it throws so much into sharp relief and changes your perspective for ever.
