strange call out from sleep

Hi all.

Ok im sure some of you will think im absolutely barmey...but here it goes!

This morning i had a nap whilst dd did and during my very deep sleep i heard someone call my name quite loudly from the inside of my bedroom door. It was really hard for me to turn my head and open my eyes as i was in such a deep sleep, anyway when i did i could see a female in a (ok ready to hear you all laugh) crochet cream top. When i looked again there was no one there. I didnt see a face.

It cant have been a dream as i was woken from such a deep sleep and i didnt wake from a dream that carried on. The voice was so loud and clear as if someone was literally in the room with me as i say. I fell straight back to sleep again. When i woke up again when dd did, i was aware of my surroundings and thought the call out may have been a warning for something. But everything seemed fine.

Any ideas? Anyone experienced anything like this?

It sounds like sleep paralysis to me - you were asleep the whole time which is why it felt hard to move and why you went back to your dream. Sometimes I open my eyes during an episode and it's like the dream is overlaid on real life which is why you see strange things like this woman.

If it was a warning, who was warning you of what? Why shout your name? Wouldn't specific information have been more logical? Maybe a hand written letter outlining the impending issue and what you can do to avoid it?

Sleep paralysis

This link may help. It can be a bit scary. I've had this a few times. When I was a student (and burning the candle at both ends, living on 3 hrs sleep!) I got it a lot.

It was alien abduction dreams accompanied with a weird buzzing noise. Completely freaky.
Once it sounded like a man's voice yelling " can anybody hear me?!"
I was so relieved to discover the cause as it was driving me a bit potty.

They can be due to stress. I used to experience lucid dreaming and sleep paralysis when living on my own in a horrible flat after my marriage ending. I haven't had one in years.

I agree it is sleep paralysis. It seems to occur more often when you are overtired and/or stressed, and if you have a young baby you could well be one or both of those things!

I experienced these a lot at different points. Sometimes the hallucinations were quite horrific, and I often got the feeling of something pinning me to the bed, which is not uncommon but bloody terrifying. One occasion I heard the loud warning voice like you, and it just said 'don't go in the bathroom' - of course I woke up and was busting for a wee and was too scared to go to the loo, and ended up going in the garden (should say this wasn't my garden, and was spotted by my friend's dh coming back from a night shift, wondering why their houseguest was weeing on the compost heap when they had a perfectly good bathroom)!

Thanks everyone! Sleep paralysis it is then! Lol. Although i was under the impression that sleep paralysis was always scary but i didnt feel threatened at all. But it all makes lots of sense as dd is 13 months and im working and worrying lots about money...blah blah blah

Not barmey, could be sleep paralysis, might be and may not be.
What did you think of when someone called your name? You saw a female - but what did you 'feel'?

To be honest indigobarbie when i heard my name i thought it was my sister in law just popped in lol. Our house is quite open and our friends and family just walk through the back so this would have been quite possible. I wanted to say "hi, you alright?" Just like normal but found i couldnt, looked again and no one was there and then went back to sleep.

I've had this, more or less. Kind of
It was when my DD was about four and she wasn't well.

I was going to bed, just settling down to sleep, when I heard someone say "nee-no nee- no" (which is how we used to refer to emergency service sirens when our kids were younger)

I sat up in bed, looking around. Asked DH if he'd heard it, no. Was gobsmaked. Couldn't tell you if it was male or female, inside or outside my head, but it was very clear.

To cut a long story short, next day, DD had to be taken to hospital and they did put the siren on to go through a congested town centre.
I only remembered my 'warning' late that might when the worse was over.

Very weird, and i'm still looking for answers
