Grace as a name?

Hi. I am due for my first in the next few weeks and currently having discussions with my husband about possible names. He really likes Grace but I'm less sure. I go to church (he doesn't) and I think for me the word Grace is so significant and gets used a lot. Do you think this matters as it is such a meaningful word and I'm worried it will be a bit odd to be using it on a daily basis...and possibly shouting it when they become a teenager! Opinions welcome.

My mother ( a daughter of the manse and a church elder herself) had a story about the minister who said from the pulpit 'Grace is rich and grace is free' at which a little voice piped up 'no I'm not Daddy, I'm four'.

Sorry, probably not very helpful.... its a lovely name, only you can judge whether its too significant for you to use it as such. I think you'd find that Grace became a different word to grace IYSWIM.

I've always loved the name Grace.

Whatever lovely name you choose will become the name you holler up the street and down the garden for the 10th time while waiting for them to put their shoes on or pack their bag or brush their hair!! You should choose the name you love but be prepard to see it in a different light. Ultimately it will be the name you picture when you picture your little one (maybe) so why not a beautiful name with a special significance.

PS and be prepared to be called Grace's mum and to use that title to introduce yourself to people for the next 15 years in that way (it is the biggest honour you can hope for.... IMHO.... and a lovely way to be known!)

Thank you all...really helpful and story of the four year old in church made me chuckle. Don't think we are making firm decisions until the bubba has arrived and it also may be a boy so we shall see! X

Hi! I believe names are very important and significant. There are examples in the Bible where God has changed peoples names eg Abraham and Sarah so I like to think they are important to him too. We prayed about the names for each of our 3 boys and their names mean 'Gift from God', 'Bringer of Light' and 'Beloved'. Their behaviour doesn't always live up to their names and I don't always feel like calling them nice things especially in the midst of strops. (They are currently 7, 6 and 4.) Each time we speak their names we are speaking good things over them. You need tonnes of grace as a mother, for your children but for yourself too. It may be a beautiful reminder... Enjoy the journey :)
