how much do you let your faith/spirituality inform your decisions?

I have recently decided not to apply for a teaching post I might otherwise have wanted because I ideally want to work in a school where I am not having to participate in things with which I do not wholeheartedly believe. (Some might say this goes without saying in education anyway with government initiatives!!)

I have previously worked in such schools but now I am thinking of my path and what suits it. My personal belief has never come up in my job, I am trying to get a better match for myself.

So have you ever made a decision that reflects your beliefs or purposely chosen to hide them?

Deeproots I cannot hide my beliefs. I am my beliefs. Therefore I myself know that I am precluded from some jobs. Those that will put me into positions I don't want to be in, those that will cause me stress, those that make me unhappy.

That is not to say that practicalities don't come into it.

Such dilemmas make us revisit our beliefs (or ethics) It is a good thing to take a new look at old beliefs. So look at them. Think about them. Discuss them with your friends and family.

Then look at that job. Only you can find the balance for you.

I didn't go back to my old job after maternity as I was always put into a position of lying to customers. My bosses were pushy and had little empathy between them and delegated the awful stuff to me. Wore me down in the end and I was overjoyed not to go back!!

I am now a childminder and this fits better

That's good advice Dione. My thinking is based on the fact it would be a hard job anyway without the belief/ethics to consider.

I think, all faith/spirituality aside - you are listening to your inner self, and that is vital when attempting to live in a way which honours your own true feelings. Ultimately, this type of living can lead you to happiness :)
