Seeing Fortune teller when pregnant??

Hi, I'm currently 22 weeks pregnant.
Friend at work today told me she had seen a fortune teller at the weekend who was amazing. . She told her loads of stuff no one else knew, predicted things about future & lost relatives came through to her. I now really want to see this woman and on the spur if the moment phoned her & she can see me on Sun. My dad died last year & aside from that hubby & I are going through a really difficult dowel with his job (redundancy) and no luck so far finding a new one. Basically I have a lot going on & have been thinking about going to see a fortune teller for the last year but always put it off. . .HOWEVER hubby thinks its a bad idea, that I'm far too emotional, would be upset if my dad didn't come through or was told any bad news (girl at my work was told some bad news). Just wondering what people's thoughts are please on whether or not its a good idea? Please don't post just to tell me how crap fortune tellers are, if you don't believe in them then I respect that but I'm not looking for a debate on whether they're real or not. Thanks

Well, I guess it boils down to how you think you'd react if things didn't go as you'd hoped. Do you feel strong enough? Maybe your friend could go with you for a bit of moral support. I think a lot of readings do bring comfort, but maybe not in the way you are expecting.

Thanks for replying, no I do feel strong enough at the moment to hear all she has to say. I've heard most people say they feel a sense of real comfort after they've been & that they leave on a real high so I guess I'm just hoping for that!

Are you hoping to connect with spirit? If so then you're better going to a spiritualist church and booking a private sitting. They don't fortune tell though. You may get some guidance for your life but it's more to prove life goes on.

Well the lady I'm going to see is a medium and it's at her house so it's a private sitting, what's the difference at the spiritual church?

Oh right so not a fortune teller then. They're mediums too at the Church. Ours do psychic suppers and things which go down well. You get fed and a reading

I am sorry you are having a hard time of things, but please consider that these people make money out of vulnerable people. I suspect you might be short of cash if your husband has lost his job, so is it really wise to spend money on such a thing?

You will be far better off just chatting things through with a friend or getting support from a charity support group.

It probably isn't what you wanted to hear, but these people are con artists.

Yeah I did go. She was really good but some of the things left me a bit
She knew I was pregnant & first thing she said was, 'so this isn't your first pregnancy, you've had 4 babies, 2 of which are in spirit'. Which is true as I've had 2 MCs & have a 2 year old DS. Then she told me this baby is a boy also but that in 7 years I will have twins, as they run in my family (true) a boy & girl. . But that they might not be with my husband!?! Says there is a possibility we may split up, which will be my doing, but that I would meet someone else & be ok. My dad came through, she got his name right & description right but didn't really say much about him which disappointed me a bit. Described my gran & said she is always with me which gave me a bit of comfort. Also said there is a birthday round about Dec when the Xmas tree is up, which is true for my son!
In hindsight there are parts of what she said that I think but others there's no way she could possibly have known, names, dates and the 4 babies, 2 in spirit!
Now though the seed has been planted in my head that my husband & I ate going to split up

You will have seen from my earlier post that I am cynical about these things, but I hope you don?t mind me making some observations on your experience and asking some questions (hopefully to put your mind at risk).

1. The numbers of children don?t seem to stack up in my view. She said 'so this isn't your first pregnancy, you've had 4 babies, 2 of which are in spirit' (by the way, sorry to hear of your MCs), but her statement is in the past tense, you have had 3 children (2 MCs and one boy). Is there any chance that you miss heard her and that she included your current pregnancy? Alternatively, since a huge percentage of women sadly have to go through multiple MCs, then it might be seen as an easy guess on her part (especially since women who don?t have problems in their life are not likely to see a medium).

2. Twins run in most families. Most people will know a set of twins within their family, but they might not be part of your close family group. If she had said ?You will have twins like your sister did?, then that would be a statistically unlikely guess, but if your 2nd cousin had twins, then there is barely any genetic link to your likelihood of having twins.

3. When she guessed your father?s name, how did she do it? Did she just come straight out with it and say ?Your Dad was called Bert? (which is pretty impressive), or did she ask lots of questions about him leading up to it, narrowing down the first letter of his name, etc)? Also, I presume she had your name, so do you have any social media accounts (such as Facebook or linkedIn), where you might give away hints? Also, if she has your approximate address and your name, she would have been able to check the national census to get his details?

4. Saying ?there is a birthday round about Dec is also a really easy guess. The Xmas tree goes up in Nov to Jan in many houses, so that covers a quarter of the entire year! If you consider that most people have about 7 close family members, the odds are in favour of someone having a birthday in those three months.

5. You might split up with your DH, but statistically this is really likely (lots of people get divorced). If you do (I hope you don?t), then it will not be her prediction, it will just be an easy guess on her part!

Should've been clearer, she said this was my 4th pregnancy and that i already have one child here & 2 babies in spirit, which is correct.

She just came right out with my dads name, no prompting asked.

Guess you could be right about Xmas tree, but then said the numbers 19 & 21 are also significant (19th is my birthday & 21st my mums)

All she knew about me was my first name & mobile number so no way of knowing anything else about me. I had to travel to the other side of the city to see her so she would have no way of knowing who I was. She also stated she sees me living in the outskirts of the city, in a small village with not much in it. . Which is also true, she had no idea how long it took me to get there.

Also, I'm adopted and she went on for ages about being confused by seeing 2 sets of parents, 2 mothers & 2 fathers??

In hindsight I'd like to see a video recording of it to playback how much info I 'volunteered' but I was very aware of not telling her anything. . And she genuinely didn't know anything about me other than my first name & mobile number

My point is, that with the exception of the number of children (which is vague, and presented in a way which could mean many things), EVERY other bit of information could be generated from national census and birth deaths and marriages information (available on the internet at low cost). Anyone that has watched the BBC programme ?So Who Do You Think You Are? will know this is the case (but with a little more work you can go back hundreds of years and still get the same quality of results).

It is far more likely that she used your mobile telephone number (either through directory enquiry websites, or if you are not listed through a disreputable friend who works for a telecoms company, or a doggie website), to get your basic details and then worked the rest out. All she then needs to do, is make it seem mystical and vague, so it doesn?t make it look like she has stolen your details, and then replayed them back to you too accurately (which would look too suspicious). If you called her using your using your landline to book the appointment, she would only need to do 1471 to get your landline number. It is very easy to build up information on people, as we ooze data every minute of our lives!

My wife gets calls at my parents house (where she has never lived) from dodgy cold callers trying to con bank details out of her. I have no idea how she has ever been linked to my parents? house, since she has never lived there, but someone has got hold of a few snippets of data and joined it together to make a link which is completely true. It is deeply scary.

What I am saying is that it is far more likely that the above rationale is true (which is easy to prove), then something else magical has happened.

Do you really think, with all the evidence of the horrible things that human beings do to one another around the world, and the utter lack of scientific evidence supporting psychic practices (notwithstanding the huge amounts of evidence against, such as this www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-20145664), that it is more likely that someone is more likely to be psychic than a con artist?

Getting you customers to need to come back for a second session is good business practice. The OP will be deeply worried about the risk to her marriage and this means that she might return (parting with more hard earned cash), to ask for more details about her predicted divorce (which she can duly make up in the knowledge that the OP will believe what she says)!

With all that said, there are two types of psychics. The "Closed Eye", is someone who genuinely thinks they are psychic (like the Muppets who took part in the experiment I linked to above). The "Open Eye" is someone who knows that there is no such thing as a psychic, but does it to con people out of money.

My MIL is a Closed Eye tea leaf reader. She is a lovely woman, and genuinely things she can predict the future with soggy leaves. She has no understanding of statistics, and because of a few lucky guesses, she is adamant that she can do it. She ignores the hundreds of things she ?predicts? that don't happen, but remembers the one or two things that do and claims them as proof. Bless!

technodad there are lots of religions that have different beliefs. A lot believe in life after death. The difference with Spiritualism is it tried to prove this. I go to a church where no one makes money out of giving messages. People come out of choice we don't knock on any doors or try to convert.
Of course you won't believe, most don't. Why should they unless they've had amazing evidence? I wouldn't want it any other way. There's nothing worse than someone who hangs on to every bit of evidence. It's not healthy. Much healthier to be a sceptic. I'm actually one too, I need lots of good evidence before I believe.
There's really no need to be so patronising. I don't believe in fortune telling it's wrong. There are too many people who,like you say, put so much faith in it and keep on going back, spending hard earned cash. It gives our religion a bad name.

Op please don't go back to this fortune teller. If you do really want to explore whether your loved ones spirit lives on then go to a good church. And if you do go to a church make sure you feel comfortable there. Like a lot of places of worship there are some that are more suited to people than others. Keep your cash for you and your family

I am not religious, but can not fault what you have said. I don't have a problem with people's personal belief, and besides poking the odd joke at my MIL (which she does back to me for my views too) we respect each others way of life (we have no reason not to).

Where I draw the line, I when people have money stolen from them, as in the case with the OP.

If the OP has said that a friend did a free tea leaf reading and that the friend had not caused her angst, the I would never have thought of posting.

I don't believe money was stolen from me, I went of my own free will & paid £35 for a reading that lasted an hour & 45 mins.

Whilst there are some things she said that make me a bit there are other things she couldn't possibly have known. The thing about 4 babies, 2 in spirit isn't really run of the mill, norm for people is it?
And whilst its great to think she got all this info from the census, Facebook etc she literally had my first name & mobile number. My husband is in the police & has to go through numerous data protected subscriber checks etc to get any sort of details about a person from their phone number & it is a lengthy drawn out process. I hardly think that a medium I booked would be given security clearance from Vodafone to access my info?

At the end of the day, I was trying to reassure you that you shouldn't get worried about your marriage, and I am not wanting to cause you further upset.

I am not saying that she "knew" about your history, I am merely saying that something like that is an easy guess. Most women I know have had at least one MC (sadly), and two is very common. Depending upon the statistics you look at, something of the region of 25% of ALL pregnancies are MCs. This means that if you meet someone with of a certain age who has a family, then you have have a punt and sometimes you will be right and sometimes you will be wrong.

I am willing to bet that she told you a few things that weren't guessed correctly, but you will have ignored those bits and concentrated on the bits she guessed correctly, it is human nature to try to spot patterns in everything in life. We evolved this way, since our decedents who didn't spot patterns got eaten by the tiger (thus didn't pass on their genetic material), but those who spotted a pattern (or imagined they did), ran away and survived (what might not have even been a tiger in the first place).

Regarding the Vodafone thing, I am not saying she has security clearance. I am saying that she might know some hackers (or suchlike). Or you might have booked the appointment with your landline, and she just did 1471 to get your number (which might open doors to your details). I don't know, I just know that it is far far less likely that she is in contact with dead people.

Your BT exchange will be within about 3 miles of your house. You don't even need to be a crook to get easy information about someone (i.e. the fact that you live in a village area)

OP she sounds as if she's a good psychic not really a medium. She can read your aura. Something anyone can do if they practice enough and want to, some find it easier than others. It's just an energy thing tbh. She really shouldn't give you bad news like that though imo.

I phoned and booked her from my mobile, she never had my landline number. I guess what your saying us correct there were a few things she said that had no relevance to me (yet?) but there were far more things that she said that were spot on.

I just feel like I have to reply. TechnoDad raises some valid points here. Very down to earth and wise points.

Hi, my name's indigo and I too am psychic or whatever we are saying about spey wifey's these days. There are many of us going about disguised as 'normal' folk. I've never taken any money for what I see or pass on, I have no idea if I am right or not - but I do most of my work remotely on people I have never met before. I don't need to know anything about the person whatsoever. I don't need to speak to them. People come back to me after time has passed to say what I saw for them was correct/helpful to know and comforting, even if it was months prior that I told them. Sometimes I get names, sometimes I see or just know situations. THis isn't a boasting post, it's just a - this is what is real for me post.
I scared myself with this when I was younger and decided I had no clue what to do. There was no one to speak to about it. Obviously, there are so many views on it. But, I still see hear, feel, dream and know things. Passed over loved ones can and do talk to me, and tell me things they wish their loved ones to know. I try not to advertise it too much, but I like to lead a kindof quietish life and get on with it. So. Why on earth - if I could help people with this 'gift/whatever it may be' would I ever put myself out there to be branded a con artist? Why? WWYD?

Thanks Indigo - can you explain to me a bit more about how it works? For example, when she said to me about the 2 babies in spirit, would you just get a 'feeling' that was the case or would you hear in your head someone telling you. Would you tell people bad news if anything bad came to you?

Hi, I'm sure its different for everyone. Sometimes I get a sense of 'knowing' and sometimes I might see numbers, or be told via the communicating spirit. Sometimes I see visions as if I am daydreaming.
I think I'd be using my common sense and be very very tactful when telling the information - if I thought it was bad news. I mean, this is very sensitive and people are relying on proper truthful information coming through - there's a way to deliver information. Unfortunately some people are unable to apply sensitivity when they give it out - maybe they just feel like they have to pass on everything they get.
I have to say though - it's like sometimes things are lost in translation. Even for me, when I have visited spiritualists/mediums - it's the way they are able to translate what they are getting. I've been told things that I didn't understand and I shook my head, but yet - later on when I thought about it - it dawned on me what was actually being meant. It can be a toughie, but I try to give exactly what I am being shown/sent/feelings etc and trust that what comes through is right for that person at that time.
But again, do go with what you feel in your heart.
