Any other Mumsnet Greenbelters?

I'm sure there must be an overlap between greenbelt-festival-goers and mumsnet people. We could just have a thread to share tips and ooh-go-and-see-this moments. We could even try to arrange a meetup if we're not all too busy festivalling.

If you were at the Peterson Toscano thing earlier and were constantly disturbed by someone trying unsuccessfully to keep their overtired 3-year-old quiet - sorry, that was me. But the performance was marvellous.

Do you let the kids stay up latelatelate or keep normal routine? Do you expect them to come along to grownup things and keep quiet or do you stick to child-friendly things?

One of the things I always liked at Cheltenham was how good the toilets were. We went the first Boughton year, and I can't remember what they were like. So last year was a shock.

I have read somewhere that there will be sinks for hand-washing this year which will be good.

I'd recommend carrying toilet roll as there isn't always any there. And hand sanitiser.

I didn't know that about the 24 hour cafe @Fluffyhoglets do you know if they will fill reusable thermos cups there?

@erinaceus I'd be interested to hear how that goes, ds1 and I are considering volunteering next year.

Anywhere that sells hot drinks refills reusable cups. They are really big on it at GB.

I know they will fill them with coffee/tea but I'd only want hot water, I can't afford to keep buying drinks but can stretch to water. Mind you, at the moment I'm not sure we can get there. I think my lift has fallen through :(

ChuggaChuggaTooToo · 26/08/2023 01:10

I hope you did manage that lift today @imnotwhoyouthinkiam

Today has been great. Mixture of serious talks & music including a couple of copella-packin' acapella pelicans pickin' up a piccolo in Acapulco's archipelago.

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 27/08/2023 18:51

I did thank you @ChuggaChuggaChooChoo I'm having the best time. So much to "unpack" when I get home

ChuggaChuggaTooToo · 27/08/2023 20:57

I am trying to squeeze in the Jamaican Bible Remix audio wander before the light totally fails

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 28/08/2023 20:06

I hope everyone got home safely today and saw everything/ most things that they wanted to see.

Faircastle · 28/08/2023 22:28

I had a lovely, positive weekend. Have already booked tickets for 2024!

Fluffyhoglets · 31/08/2023 15:40

Just popping back to say I hope you had as good a festival as I did. Loved the Glitter Ball although after a late finish getting up and in place for Communion to start at 10 was tough!
Best talk I went to was Gordon Brown.
Thinking I might volunteer next year to see a different side of the festival. I camp with alot of volunteers and they seem to find it very rewarding.
I'm still not adjusted to being back in the "real world" yet!

DaisyWaldron · 01/09/2023 05:34

I couldn't go this year, but am also considering volunteering next year, too.

erinaceus · 01/09/2023 06:25

Volunteering was a good option - I enjoyed it 👍🏼👍🏼

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 01/09/2023 09:59

The glitterball was so much fun!

DS1 and I am thinking of volunteers next year. What was it like @erinaceus ? How many hours do you have to do? Do you still have plenty of time to go to things?

erinaceus · 01/09/2023 14:15

@imnotwhoyouthinkiam I enjoyed volunteering very much. For the details of shift timings, you need to check each individual volunteer role. Specifically some roles involve festival setup and takedown, which means being on site before and/or after the festival. This allows you to enjoy the festival with few or no obligations but does mean you have to camp and be onsite for more days.

I took a role that obliged me to work shifts during the days the festival was on. I wasn’t that fussed about attending the festival myself and mostly rested when I wasn’t on shift but we were able to nominate anything we particularly wanted to see and our shifts were allocated accordingly. We all went to Communion.

Volunteers get access to a designated camping area near to the entrance gate, meal vouchers for every shift (about enough for one main meal per shift), free access to the showers, and a volunteer lounge backstage which provides hot drinks, soup and toast, phone charging and somewhere to relax.

Mostly I enjoyed meeting a great bunch of people, learning some new skills and I did see a couple of events which were good. I’d do it again. I think if you really want to see a lot of the festival proper, be careful to pick your volunteer role accordingly.

I had a fab GB. Few highlights included Grace Petrie ...

"Mummy... what is a butch lesbian?"....

...Harry and Chris and the awesome play David Attenborough and His Animals. It was amazing.

We haven't made it home yet. We went glamping at a Featherdown Farm.

Boat home tomorrow.

Prompted by the recent thread on Spring Harvest, bumping this one: is anyone planning to be at Greenbelt this August 2024?

I plan to be volunteering again ⛺️ ✝️ 🙌🏼

ChuggaChuggaTooToo · 05/03/2024 07:34

Always! And managed to persuade a family we know well to join us this year as I know it's totally something that they will all love.

erinaceus · 05/03/2024 08:14

I’d be quite interested in an MN meetup ant Greenbelt if anyone else fancies this? Even if it’s just to eg go for a walk, or grab a coffee - or meet up to go to a particular gig/event.

What do you think? We could make something child-friendly or not as suits.

imnotwhoyouthinkiam · 05/03/2024 08:23

We're hoping to come. Just need to sort some stuff.

FriendofDorothy · 05/03/2024 12:38

Sadly not for us this year. I live in Guernsey and it costs just so much for us to get there. We are heading to France instead.

I would be up for that! It would be brilliant to meet up. I would be childfree personally as my by-then 15yo would only want to be near me in order to ask for more money and then disappear again but have no problem with others bringing their DC if that's what works.

Great! I’ll have a word with the contacts I have via the volunteering team as there might be a way to get something into the programme 😎 so others might be able to find us even if they don’t check this MN forum. I’m not sure whether this will be permitted or not but I shall find out.

I’ll have a think about the format too. Maybe something like a picnic format? Weather dependent!

sleepingbunny · 13/03/2024 09:28

Definitely up for this too - I'm hoping to volunteer this year for the first time (DDs both old enough that they need no looking after) but hopefully will work out!

erinaceus · 13/03/2024 12:10

I asked Greenbelt if we can put a meetup in their program and they don’t allow that but gave me some practical tips on what other similar groups do which were helpful.

Once the program is out we could try to pick out a day and time that most of us can make.

@sleepingbunny which volunteer team did you apply for? (If you’ve applied already.)

ChuggaChuggaTooToo · 13/03/2024 20:28

We could meet up on the unprogrammed thursday afternoon/evening but if there's a boardgames event at the same time I will be at that.

sleepingbunny · 17/03/2024 08:00

@erinaceus i will be in the hope and anchor- definitely up for a meet up if it works around shifts! Two teens- one of whom is hoping to do the d of e residential bit before the festival starts - possibly an extra teen if our foster daughter is back from Kyiv - but they can all look after thermselves.
