Church in London?

DD has recently been asking alot of questions about God, creation, religion etc. I've answered the best I can, but it's got me thinking that perhaps going to church might benefit us both.

I was raised in a fairly strict religious/moral family. I've steered well clear of organised religion as an adult. However, I've been thinking that a loving/accepting/supportive church setting might provide another "community" for me and dd. As non-Londoners (and non-Brits), it's nice to feel a part of something, and church might be one of the things I would consider.

Of course, where to begin searching is a daunting dilemma in a city the size of London. Do any London residents go to a church that you might recommend to us?

I'm not at all a regular churchgoer, but I take ds & dd to the festival services at \link{http://www.stmaryabbotschurch.org\St Mary Abbots} in Kensington. The attached CofE primary is very sought after - so of course you can imagine what that means in terms of congregation.

And it's a beautiful building in a nice place with a charismatic vicar and a lively (but trad) way of doing things.

Hi Earlybird, my church is fab. Down to earth, friendly vicar. Woolly, liberal c of e. very inclusive, jammed to the gills with families, a very good place to be I think. Depends what you like I guess. It's not remotely high or evangelical.

Bink - St. Mary's looks beautiful, and I imagine festival services are uplifting. And a charismatic vicar is always a huge bonus. We may give it a try. Your description has also reminded me that we're relatively close to Smith Square (think it's St John's there?), and they have a reputation for inspirational music programs. Not sure it still functions as a church with services/congregation though, but will look into it.

Welshmum - your church sounds great. I think I'd like a place that is family friendly (as opposed to religiously rigid). Ideally, I'd want to be stimulated and supported by church. How lucky you are to have found a place that provides that.

alittlebitshy - we're in sw1, but are not averse to a bit of tube travel to go somewhere wonderful. It doesn't have to be right on our doorstep, so if you've got ideas/suggestions would love to hear them.
