Modern "giving it all up to help others" story

I apologise for posting here, despite going to Sunday school for the first 16 years of my life I can't claim to be a regular church-goer now.

Mu mum however is a stalwart of the local church, and she has been asked to give a sermon about modern people who have made a personal sacrifice to spread the word of the lord.

She told me that she was planning on making her sermon about Albert Schweitzer and Eric Liddle (please excuse spellings), both of whom are sadly deceased, (and I believe in the 50's).

I suggested that she may want o go a bit more modern and she asked for my help - so please ladies, don't let my mum down - who could I google to be an inspiration for the Christian faith?

did you see that series on modern missionaries? It was on bbc 3 and had some university chaplains taking part in it.

Unfortunately I missed that series, but I'll see if it's on the BBC website.

Could anyone give me a name to google? Please?

Have a look at Simon Guillebaud online..he has an ace blog and has done some amazing work in Burundi. Also an excellent storyteller!

Or Jackie Pullinger

I will try and think of some more...

Look on some mission society websites too Interserve, SIM, CMS etc etc- there are some inspirational stories there from the little unfamous but faithful and inspirational people too

That's a huge help thank you so much. My mum is thrilled. And yes, I think that the unsung heros are oing to play a big part in her sermon, she's going to write out a list and have the congregation pray for them all.

I really appreciate you taking the time to have a look for me.
