The church and healing

I have just been reading the beginning of Acts, and it has got me thinking. When and why did the church or its members lose their power of healing? I don't mean isolated cases, but times when 'the multitude of cities round about came together to Jerusalem bringing sick persons...who were all healed.'. Or am I being too literal about this? I was just trying to relate it to today's facebook generation, and thinking that if the news spread beyond Jerusalem in those days, in 2012 it would be known worldwide within minutes. But its not, so why?
