Sometimes I feel like the Bible is a load of nonsense...

I mean, I read it, interpret it, seek to understand it, but sometimes it feels like I'm just jumping through hoops to try to make it make sense and work in the real world where people's lives are shit and the world is often shit.

Argh. Sad

But madhair whats to stop us applying the same lens to say the Koran and assume that that is a god inspired text too?

It's not reading around the historicity of the OT text that convinces me it is God inspired, though - I'm just as interested to read round other ancient texts and discover their contexts. It's experience of God in the now coupled with compelling evidence for the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is this event which makes sense of much of the OT.

so many people just seem concerned about their own problems and their own lives to notice that there is a huge world out there with massive issues of injustice going on and that we need to do something about it, not just sit and focus on our own small part of the world...

with you there OP.

Nobody's mentioned it but I thought it was standard to ask God to reveal its meaning? The bible, that is. yy there's some beautiful poetry/imagery in it, plus all that hacking about in the OT. (I lurve the OT but that's another story.)

It may be that for you it's time to 'get out there' and start working on/with projects that address the wider world, the injustices etc. There's a place for a holy huddle (did I just write that??) but imo it's short-lived and should be a passing-through place. A launching pad, if you will.
