Just wanted to start a prayer thread for expat's little girl, Ailidh, who has been very ill with leukaemia. Just wanted to show our support and pray that her treatment works and that she is back in action very, very soon!

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 24/06/2012 19:34

I don't know what I believe anymore, tbh.

Northernlurker · 24/06/2012 19:39

'still hanging on' is going to have to be good enough for now. Things will get better, they will.
I assume they will be watching her renal function closely as well as everything else. Did they rule out PCP or is that still a possible?

Oh and the play specialist thing is absurd. Do any other staff go from room to room like that? Seems massively risk laden.

Elephantscantdothemoonwalk · 24/06/2012 19:40

Oh darling. It's really difficult to read your posts as they show how hard this is. You just have the mothers instinct- you will always believe in her.
I have my hands lifted each night. I light a candle for her. (((((hugs))))

expatinscotland · 24/06/2012 19:52

They do not believe it is PCP, no, from scan and xrays. Her fluid balance is now quite negative, for starters. They believe it is a PCR virus and/or gram positive bacteria, but again, sputum analysis will help. She is also pooing it out the other end (of course, people are often unable to bring up the lung contents and swallow them) so those have been sent for analysis, too.

She is a very strong little girl! Please pray for her!

Yes, the staff go from room to room like that. With pinnies on and washing their hands. But they still breath all over and whaddya know, all her problems are respiratory, meaning she caught what she did from someone breathing on her and it sure as fuck wasn't me.

SecretNutellaFix · 24/06/2012 19:55

She takes after her mother.

Northernlurker · 24/06/2012 19:56

We are praying expat and we won't stop. We believe in miracles, in hope, in good news.

Northernlurker · 24/06/2012 19:59

I'm guessing A wouldn't tolerate wearing a mask when the staff come in right? Is it worth asking them about wearing them? They might look a bit scary but it could be worth it? Or our nurses use a clear shield thing that covers the whole face. (I work in admin in a renal unit). They used to cannulate with no protection at all but we do things differently now! Grin it's this kind of thing

NoComet · 24/06/2012 20:03

Aillidh keep on hanging in there.

Oh shit, I wish I had a god to pray to, sometimes.

Whoever, is in charge give Expat and family strength and Aillidh's Drs skill and humility.

edam · 24/06/2012 20:07

Am praying hard, expat.

Hassled · 24/06/2012 20:09

I can't tell you how often I've lurked and caught up and not known what to say - or how often I think about you and Aillidh. Wishing you much strength.

expatinscotland · 24/06/2012 20:17

Oh, she's on a mask all the time. She's on 4ltr oxygen during the day and it goes up at night.

You can't use prongs past 4ltrs and she has sinusitis so they don't want to irritate her nasal passages any further.

The next step is 'supported breathing' via C-PAP and beyond that ITU.

Respiratory cons in today saying right now she is holding her own in here.

But let me tell you, she has done that ALWAYS. From the time she took typhilitis, twice, to the time her potassium went up to 7.2, to now.

This kid is made of some seriously strong shit!

This is caught between the Scylla and Charybdis for all her team in a major way because it isn't just about the respiratory infection.

Last Sat. her GVH rash was epic. Her cons, a professor, had no real choice but to introduce steroids, knowing it would worsen the already known virus in her lungs.

Her cons just showed up. She was at some conference and came straight over to examine her. She's off with the transplant doc to discuss strategy.

StealthPolarBear · 24/06/2012 20:22

:(

Northernlurker · 24/06/2012 20:26

Oh I forgot about the oxygen mask

Yes she is tough. Made in Scotland, from girders? Which reminds me of

bumpybecky · 24/06/2012 20:27

sending love and strength to you both xx

ToothbrushThief · 24/06/2012 20:27

Aillidh is very much in my thoughts even though I haven't posted much. Expat you and yours are also in my prayers - for strength, patience and the hope you get 5 minutes peace to shower and eat!

expatinscotland · 24/06/2012 23:02

She is a hair's breath away from ITU, folks. 8ltrs of oxygen, 38.5 temp, sats sitting at 95. They have to go to CPAP and it's ITU.

Migsy1 · 24/06/2012 23:07

Praying for you both.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 24/06/2012 23:07

Sorry Expat. I really, really hope with everything I have that she can stay out of ITU tonight. x
