The priest has just phoned to ask me to carry the chrism oil in the offertory procession this evening. (I am getting baptised on Saturday).

What to I have to do????

DH is not here and DS who is 8 has told me "you just go and get it when the teachers tell you to and walk up the aisle and give it to the priest!" All very well, but I don't have any teachers, lol!

Please tell me slowly, preferably using words of no more than two syllables what I have to do!

When it is time for the offertory (after the bidding prayers and the Hail Mary) you will go to the back of the church (the chrism should be there) - everyone else who is taking part in the offertory will join you. You will process together to the front and hand the chrism to the priest,

Thank you!

OK, so straight after the Hail Mary?

Yes, if there is an offertory hymn it will start.

In most churches the procession waits until the collection is taken and then they process, although I have been to some where the bread/wine/chrism goes up first.

Just follow the others!

Congratulations on your upcoming baptism

Forgot to say, the priest may say a short prayer after the Hail Mary

I would go a few minutes early and see exactly where the Chrism is/will be put so you know exactly where to go. As the HM is being said go to that spot so you are ready - there will be others with the bread and wine to help you.

Good luck and contrats on your upcoming baptism.

Thank you all.

I'm feeling a lot calmer now.

Almandine, hope it went well

Almandine · 05/04/2012 23:11

Thank you, it went very well. Smile

I wouldn't have been too sure if you hadn't told me to go at the end of the Hail Mary!

I was so Angry when I arrived for mass, as the DC had been really playing up all day. But after a while I found the mass was so lovely, I totally calmed down and was feeling the love.

The church was full, but not over crammed like on Sunday morning, which can be a bit stressful if I'm with the DC, but this evening a really lovely man sat next to us and pointed to all the words in his hymn book which he shared with DS.Smile He told DS to stand on the pew when I went to have my feet washed so he could see. DS said "no, my mum wouldn't let me". Grin

Glad to have helped.

Your DS sounds fab

Almandine · 05/04/2012 23:30

DS is indeed fab (when not making mischief with his brother!).
