No but would find this very difficult. Is he a very devout Chrsitian or a wolly luke-warm one?

alliep30 · 05/02/2006 17:59

completely hypocritical... apart from when it suits him.. had ds and lived together..got married when preg with dd, but would only get married in church... it stems from parental brain washing.. SIL is mentally handicapped so found god then...

God, my spelling today!

But is he a practising Chrsitian or just ticks it on boxes for teh census etc?

alliep30 · 05/02/2006 18:03

not practising at all... just token church visits and general tutting at homosexuals

Thye talk about Jesus and god even if you don't though. Believe me, they'll pick it up from State schools anyway. You'll just have to use yourselves as examples of people having differing beliefs being able to live happily (?) together, no?

Wouldn't find tutting at homosexuals acceptable but doubt this is confined to some Christians.

alliep30 · 05/02/2006 18:11

i don't accept it, believe me.. think he's scared! find it so annoying that a religion can be so judgemental...

I'm CofE, dh is atheist/humanist, and it is not a bone of contention at all between us. (there are other ones, mind you...). He will be baptised in 2 weeks' time and I will raise him CofE, but when he asks we'll just simply say to him, well, mummy believes this and daddy doesn't.

foundintranslation · 05/02/2006 18:14

He = ds not dh!

alliep30 · 05/02/2006 18:16

i just can't do it... i find the people at the church so stuffy and narrow minded... they prance about when they hear god... it's just bit of a scary freak show for me... they wonder why no one new joins... to me it's all for show about how good they are, when really they won't help anyone who isn't a christian (my local church, not all christians may i add)

is it an evangelical church allie? must admit that sort of thing's not my cup of tea either.

foundintranslation · 05/02/2006 18:21

fwiw I think it must be just as, if not more difficult having a partner with very different political beliefs to you than the combination dh and I have.

alliep30 · 05/02/2006 20:35

it's not so bad.. just don't like bickering about it.. thanks for your comments

Hi foundintranslation - we're like you - I'm methodist dh is atheist. When we were younger it was more of a problem. Both DDs were christened - he knew it meant a lot to me. We had a register office wedding followed by church blessing - I do regret this now I must admit. In every day life it is not a problem. Must admit I don't go to Church now but it still means a lot.

My dh is Christian, and I'm completely atheist. He's very liberal though and would never condemn other lifestyles or religions (which is more than you can say for some members of his family). He goes to church every Sunday and takes ds (20 months) with him, which I'm very grateful for as it gives me some time to myself. I do have mixed feelings about ds praying, he's such a pious little thing that he puts his hands together and says "Amen" everytime we walk or drive past the church. No doubt in the future there will be awkward questions about why Daddy goes to church and Mummy doesn't.
