Hi all.

Writing an essay for my degree, 'What does Jesus Christ mean to Christians?'

What does Jesus mean to you personally please?

Any help appreciated.

Many thanks.

Wow PeachyClair, where to start! I will be very concise and say "Jesus Christ is the son of God who died on the cross thus taking on the burden of man's sin and allowing us to return to a relationship with God." To me personally Jesus is my Lord and Saviour, who is always there to listen, guide and support me as I try to live the Christian life. My spiritual life is devoted to building this relationship through worship, prayer, and study.

If it's relevant my denomination is Baptist.

A friend who is always there for me. Who loves me totally no matter what. Who isn't afraid to tell me when I'm going wrong and helps me to get right again. My healer, my provider, my protector, my boss, my rescuer. The one who encourages me to do so many things I'd never have had the guts to do on my own.

The God who knows everything, can do anything, could be anywhere, decided to become a human baby who couldn't control anything. He accepted the most painful and degrading death that the society of the time could mete out - and he didn't have to, it wasn't nails that held him on the cross. He spent 3 days in hell, separated from anything good. He did that for me, to take the punishment for everything I've ever done wrong, so that I can have a daddy-and-child relationship with God without sin getting in the way.

I love him, I'm getting choked up just thinking about him, I wouldn't want to live without him. And I'm so looking forward to the day I get to meet him face-to-face.

Hmmm

To me i guess Jesus is my Lord and Saviour, He died so that i might gain enternal life. He loved me so much that he died to forgive my sins.

and to my 3 year old she'd have to say Jesus is my sister (DD2 played baby Jesus in the nativity play!)

Christ for me has huge political and social implications, as well as just personal. His words teach social equality for every human being and a non violent revolution for the whole of society, something that won't be done because it doesn't suit 'christian' governments.

Are you interested in the view of one Unitarian (an atheistic example of the species) at all? He was an historical figure, much misunderstood, possibly the most important teacher in the world to date, with very important new ideas that have stood the test of time (love one another; everyone is equal before God; non-violence), but at the end of the day he was a human being not a supernatural being.
