Has anyone ever been on a retreat?

After a long spell of mental health problems I now find myself at a loss as to who I am. I would really like to go on a retreat, away from all the chaos, and spend some time exploring my spirituality and quietening my mind.

How do I go about finding a retreat and knowing which one will be right for me?

There is a society called the Retreat Association, and they produce a magazine.

Details here: www.retreats.org.uk/

Have a think about where you'd like to go, how long you'd like to go for, and whether you'd want to be part of a group or go for an individually guided retreat. Read up on what's available, particularly where you'd like to go. Most retreat houses have a programme of events and someone to contact to ask questions about what they offer. :)

I went on one a few weeks ago. I enjoyed it, but if it's a silent one, you do come face to face with yourself which can raise some difficult feelings and thoughts. I'm not sure I'd recommend one if you've had some mental health problems recently. I was on my citalopram when I went on mine, but I still felt a bit depressed by what I felt and thought about things.
