A group of us in our (catholic) parish want to organise a Lenten reflection group this year, but we're lacking inspiration ... I wondered if anyone has any ideas of a theme / book etc. we could use as a basis of it ?
Thanks...

Do the Diocese provide anything? Ours (A and B) does if yours doesn't look on the Arundel and Brighton website, think CAFOD sometimes do one too.

York short courses are often good?

Emmaus also do some good courses, not just for Lent but can be used for that.

I should start this by saying I am not a Christian, in case that slants my reply.

I have a good friend who is a chaplain and dp and I attended his lenten reflection group a few years ago, and had a very good experience. I am a pagan and dp is a spiritualist, but the remainder of the group were CoE I think. Each week we met for an evening and watched a film that was not obviously a Christian film, then the discussed what religious messages could be taken from it, and how they could be applied to our lives. One week it was The Mission, another it was Shawshank Redemption, I forget the other films. It was very interesting.

thanks athenedoftheday, that does like a very positive way of organising it.

Ah, I knew I remembered this course!- the film one. It was in the church times a year or so ago. I think the notes should still work. If they don't- phone them and they may well be able to send you a copy I reckon.

I'm going to be running a Lent group based around this book by Stephen Croft. It's centred on the psalms and uses a mix of prayers, reflections, discussion, film clips and practical exercises in each session.
