What does the COE say about abortion?

Hello all,
I have noticed very often the following assumption: if a person does not agree with abortion, then person must be a catholic.

Does this mean that the COE agrees with abortion? If so, how can both religions be so opposed on something so fundamental, when both are based on the bible?

I am not after a discussion about abortion being right or wrong, just want to understand why this difference of opinion. Thanks.

The COE has got not having an opinion on anything down to an art. IMHO

The official Cof E position is "The Church of England combines strong opposition to abortion with a recognition that there can be - strictly limited - conditions under which it may be morally preferable to any available alternative." - the conditions generally being risk to the mother's life. So it's certainly not the case that the CofE agrees with abortion.

The bigger difference between the churches is on contraception, rather than abortion.
