I hear a child running through our house.......

Now, some of you may think it's because I have been recently bereaved BUT....
1/ It has been going on since before dd died
2/ My dd was only 7 weeks old so didn't do any running about when she was here

dh has heard it, I have heard it and now my Mum, who has been staying with us for a couple of weeks has heard it. At first I though it was our boys but when checked, they are tucked up in bed, fast asleep and they don't look as though they are feigning sleep. It definitely sounds like a child running, as opposed to mice/rats.

Oh and our house has only been built 11 years and we are the only occupants.

Any ideas?

Just go up and talk to it, like you would any other child..... it will respond and settle down.

chipmonkey · 25/10/2011 23:20

If I talk to it like I talk to the ds's I will probably shriek like a harpy that it should to to bed this instant and how does it expect to get up for school in the morning!Grin
But why is it there in the first place?

Strange. Does your house have any history? Perhaps it's just a random visitor looking for other children to play with Confused

So sorry about your little daughter.

chipmonkey · 26/10/2011 20:59

No history that I know of. As far as I know, the place was green fields before our estate was built. I don't know how long it's been going on tbh because we've always had small boys running around the house , it's just that now, it's definitely not them!

Does it always happen wehn your boys are asleep? I'm thinking one of them might be sleepwalking, except sleeprunning Confused
Years ago I had an upstairs neighbour who did this - he'd very suddenly run up and down his flat and be back in his bed soundly asleep within seconds.
Can you set up a camcorder?

hiddenhome · 26/10/2011 21:38

What time of the day/night does it generally happen? Do you have neighbours?

chipmonkey · 26/10/2011 21:43

We have neighbours but all houses are detached with big gardens so quite far apart.
I think think that, AlfalfaMum but when I check them they are totally out for the count. Don't know if I'd be bothered to set up a camcorder, tbh but I might think about it!

This happened in the house I was bought up in (according to my DM, who doesn't belive in ghosts, as a rule)

I also heard footsteps in that house, but down stairs, which were definitely adults. DH and I also heard footsteps once in a house we lived in.

I think there is a logical explanation to "ghosts" which is yet unexplained. Like the sound of your DCs footsteps being repeated somehow....Hmm

chipmonkey · 26/10/2011 22:16

I was thinking that, Lynette, that it may be an "echo" of my ds's running up and down that same landing. There is another part of me thinking overlapping alternative universes but that is a bit Star Trek!

chipmonkey I'm so sorry about your dd :(

There's most likely a rational explanation, however if you feel uncomfortable about it how would you feel about contacting your local vicar, they can come and pray for peace, there can often be disturbances in houses of any age for whatever reason and in many cases this puts it at peace, it's not like a big exorcism with shouting and scariness but just simply praying specifically for peace on the house, Catholic priests will also do this if you feel more comfortable with that.

I hope it gets resolved for you in whatever way soon :)

chipmonkey · 27/10/2011 11:19

It doesn't actually bother me, tbh. I don't think it's anything that wants to or could cause us harm. Or I would be down to the local priest like a shot!

I had something similar happen in our last house when DD moved into her own room. I would be laying in bed at night and would hear footsteps on the baby monitor, moving away from her cot, towards the door. I would then hear them change in sound as they moved onto a different carpet on the landing with the odd squeaky floorboard and then they would come into my bedroom, changing sound again as they went onto a wooden floor. I never felt this was harmful, but it did freak me out a little and I never peeked!

A few weeks later I went with some friends to a psychic fair, and one came to speak to me. She told me all about the noises I was hearing and how DD & the dog seemed to watch things walk across the room when no one was there. I didn't say a word to her, she came to me and I had never mentioned it to my friends as I was covering up PND and was convinced this was another reason to say I was mad and an unfit other! This totally shocked me as to how she knew all this. She did reassure me that nothing bad would happen and told me to put salt in the corners of every room if I wanted it to stop.

chipmonkey · 27/10/2011 12:45

Wow, Tinkerbelle! That's amazing! Did you try the salt?

Salt? That's interesting, I want to know if worked too!
