Ideas for a first communion present.

Apologies if this is the wrong place for this but I was hoping people who frequent this bit of mnet might be able to help me think of a nice first communion present for my niece. She's 8 and already has a crucifix from her christening and a lovely little missal too. She doesn't have her ears pierced so I can't get her earrings (saw some really pretty silver cross earrings).

DD got her first Swiss army penknife. She is a touch odd though.
TBH, she only got presents from me and DH, I am not a god botherer so was led by what she wanted. On the whole, she really wanted things that weren't connected to her FHC. Her church gave her a biggish cross to wear on the day and keep. Me and DH got her the knife, some earrings and a couple of books.

My daughter was given a silver charm bracelet (without any charms on it) and a small silver charm for it, the same people give her new charms to attach to it for Christmas and birthdays - one has been a little silver horse, a dog and a flower - she loves getting a new charm and they find it easy to buy a charm for her (it's usually something appropriate to what she is currently doing or liking) rather than trying to think of something that a 12year old may want. Hopes this helps!

I have seen lovely little rosary bracelets at church. The charm bracelet sounds like an excellent idea too.

We bought DD a book, which she loves even now:

The Jesus Encyclopedia

We have just been invited to my daughters friends first communion, I'm not catholic or particulary religious so we are also stuck, any more suggestions please.

my daughter had her First Communion at the weekend we did not buy her a gift as we organised a big party for her! She received gifts such as a bible, charm bracelet, necklaces with her initial on and money, and she also recieved a jewellery box which came in very handy!
Books would also be a great idea at Xmas she recived a beautiful book - the Roald Dhal treasury she loves it (it is hardback and big so looks special)

hope this helps x

Just updating in case anyone else is struggling to think of something to buy for a first communion... I bought my niece a very sweet gold St Christopher's necklace.

Another idea - "faith, hope & love" pendant (cross/anchor/heart)
