Mine are getting into the spirit by asking to listen to the Maccabeats' new Purim song over and over and over...

How is everyone else's preperations going?

Does anyone know of any Purim events in the Nottingham/Derby area?

Sorry, I'm in Leeds area, but have just sorted all Mishloach Manot and therefore feeling quite chuffed with self.

Problem is with dressing up outfit for 8 year old. I wantd to get him all bedraggled and send him as ...Poor'im...but he seems to want proper 'outfit'. Where on earth can I buy something at this time of year?

When I lived in Bucharest I used to go to the Purim show (it was more of a cabaret and had a very 1920s feel to it) at the Yiddish Theatre. I was going to go back this year and try and get tickets again, but left it too late. It was all done in about four languages - Yiddish, Romanian, English and Hungarian, including a comedian who did each joke in all four. And an old lady who used to sing in English "It's such a lovely day because it's Purim."

And then we used to eat very dry Hamantaschen which used to stick to your teeth, and were made by an old woman who looked about 100!

Ah, Maccabeats 'Purim' song isn't as good as their 'Hannukah' one :D

I've just finished teaching Judaism to my Year 7s and they LOVE the Hannukah one :D

I decided that DS was old enough to know the story behind Purim this year, instead of just the traditions associated. He never really follows it when DH reads it, so I got a cartoon version.

How wrong was I!

He's very upset about the 'Bad King' (Haman - yes I know he's not a king, but DS won't believe me) and he has decided that Esther must be a 'Bad Queen' because she lied about her name.
