Where Can I Find A Grace?

We're going to a Trafalgar Dinner in a couple of weeks and dh has been asked to say grace. We go to one every year, but as it's a special one this year, being the 200th anniversary, he wants to find something a bit different. Any ideas?

Good food
Good meat
Good God
Let's eat!

Or is this a bit more helpful...

For food in a world where many walk in hunger
For friends in a world where many walk alone
For faith in a world where many walk in fear
We give you thanks, O Lord. Amen.
(Anglican Church of Canada,)

Try the one we say at every meal:

For what we are about to receive dear Lord, make us truly thankful.
Amen

Sorry, this isn't going to be very helpful, but couldn't you find a Royal Navy grace, maybe one from the time of Trafalgar. I am sure there would be such a thing if you only knew where to find it.

OrribleOliveoil · 11/10/2005 15:52

I have a Grace you can have, she is nearly 3 and currently a pain in the rear. CAT me for a price.

bonym · 11/10/2005 15:53

I have a Grace as well, but she's only 6 months - you can't have her for any price .

Marina · 11/10/2005 15:53

There is a famous and excellent prayer made by Nelson himself on the eve of Trafalgar but I am sure that is used every year at the banquet in any case.

OrribleOliveoil · 11/10/2005 15:54

You wait a few years, your price will plummet!

Thankyou for the World so Sweet
Thankyou for the food we eat
Thankyou for the Birds that sing
Thankyou God for Everything.

But, you must all hold hands and sing this, v important.

leahbump · 11/10/2005 16:47

give us, we pray, a loftier view of life
that we may watch th Earth
upon it's axis turn-
that we may not forget
how rains flow to blood
and sun relentless burn
and harvests fail....

thus may we now give thanks
for all earths goodness set
before us here-

and in this moment's quiet space
together met,
we beg that you, who generous gives,
accept our simple humble grace.

leahbump · 11/10/2005 16:50

for past memories,
for continuing commitment
for the hope of the future
for love,life and health
and for this food and celebration
we thank you god

SirFurmum · 11/10/2005 16:50

Oh there'll be plenty of swaying. We normally sway and pretend we're on a ship and sing sea shanties. It's normally fancy dress too - naval uniform 1800s to today or Pompey tarts (which is naturally the men), but this year as it's the 200th it's posh frocks.
