Magpies

Does anyone else recite the One For Sorrow... rhyme when they see them?

I am feeling very uncomfortable with what I saw on the morning I found out I was pg with no. 2. Three magpies on the lawn (three for a girl, we have since found out that it is a girl) first thing in the morning when I was getting DS up. Thing is, they were attacking a fourth bird (a pigeon, I think). It was dead by the end, and they were eating it.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I do recite it - not sure if i believe it though!

If I see one on its own, I say "morning mr magpie, how's the wife?"

the reason for the phrase saying it's bad luck to see one, is that magpies always hang around in at least pairs, so if you see one on its own, the other one is close-by. and if she is, then you can ask how she is, because you know she's there.
the bad luck came because the theory is that something bad has happened to jolt this norm.

Please don't worry about having seen it eating the pigeon - Magpies are predator birds, and that's just what they do. It has no bearing at all on the 3 for a girl part of it.

As a Christian, I have learned that prophecy is to encourage, edify and uplift. God is not going to send negative signals through magpies.
