Devil Worship/Satanism

Ok thought I ask

Anyone understand them?

find myself strangely fascinated by them, yet on the net there seems to be no info about devil worship.

Satanism is supposed to be nothing to do with evil or the devil yet they prey to dark angles

How confusing

What is a dark angle?

Or do you mean angel.

Satanism is in some ways a bit of a myth. Technically in order to worship Satan, who is a christian concept / myth, you have to believe in god. In which case you are not going to really believe in satan.

Google Anton La Vey and the Church of Satan.

Quite often they are very nice people, just with a certain outlook on life. From my limited experience they are more concerned with their own emotional and material wealth and wellbeing and power, than say, a buddhist or a wiccan.

There is loads about satanism on tinernet, you must have been googling the wrong terms.

My dad was a satanist.

I had great fun trying to convince someone that to believe in the Devil, he had to believe in a 'God' or something good. He was adamant that he was an Atheist as he believed in the Devil.

I don't think he got it.

He wasn't the sharpest tool either.

PersonalClown · 12/01/2011 22:24

I always thought that Satanists believe in a hedonistic and selfish lifestyle rather than an altruistic and good one.

Oh thanks nemofish

Yes meant Angel sorry

Lots of stuff on Satanism but do I get it noooo

Here is a bit from one satanic site

"There is no heaven, no hell, no afterlife, no angels or demons: there are no gods or saviours apart from ourselves."

So what is the point

But then it goes on about worshipping Angels and Demonds of the dark

Devil worship is supposed to be a lot older, more exstream.

There are certainly entities that have traditionally been called demons that one can either trap and enslave (the lesser ones I suppose) or make deals with, in return for money / power or whatever - or even warping the nature of reality quite significantly.

Wouldn't touch it with a bargepole myself - but I know people who have. I walked into my friends flat and just thought 'eek! Yuck!' I said to him - what on earth have you been doing? He had lots of little beasties inside spirit traps. Not very securely, as it turned out! He went a bit funny after that...

StuffingGoldBrass · 22/01/2011 12:45

YOu sure you don't mean mice, nemofish?
FWIW most 'Satanists' are simply humanist/atheists who like winding people up. There are a few nasty little sods but then all the major religions have their share of nasty little thugs (gaybashers, womanbeaters, racists etc).

There are two types of Satanists - The genuine ones who admire the fact that Satan was thrown out of heaven because he dared to declare himself a god (bear in mind that Satan is not an actual being, but a symbol and represents Set/Saturn). They understand that there is no such thing as good and evil (relative). If you want to know more about satanism, the keywords to google are demonaltory, and Baphomet (which is a very misunderstand and maligned symbol btw). The ultimate goal for a real satanist is to realise and reach your godhood (hence the term 'devil worship' being a misnomer).

The other group are just poseurs who couldn't conjure a fart let alone a demon.

nemofish · 26/01/2011 00:14

Hah! Yes, you said it better LadyFanny.

SGB I do not mean mice. But I know your view on such things (in general) so I'll agree to disagree please dont whip me

too much

LadyFannyofBumStreet · 26/01/2011 00:36

Smile - I thought you didn't mean mice. Ending up in a mental hospital is not uncommon, nor is a housefire or accident. I know one or two people who have ended up dead.

I should add that most demons are ancient gods and goddesses (some as old as time itself) and what happened is when Christianity came up, they took on certain gods and called them (Yahweh, Jesus and Mary), others were named as Angels, while the rest who didn't co-operate were labelled as demons. It is f*cking outrageous and I would never think of trying to bind one. Respect will get you muchhh further with them.

Anyone interested in Wicca (the religion Britain gave to the world) should read Prof. Ronald Hutton on the subject - it is one of his research interests.

"Satanism" can be lots of things to different people; from those who enjoy torturing animals, and doing "booga booga" chanting to those who worship the horned god (a form of pantheism) and see all Nature being at one.

The latter is only termed "Satanism" because in early Christianity all non-Christian religions were lumped together under the worship of "Satan" (i.e. the opponent of the Christian God) with whom that God is forever battling for control over Humankind and the Earth (such a view is, of course, Dualism but Sshhh don't tell any diehard Christians that)!

Daemons and the like scare the crap out of me, but I was much more relaxed when I was younger (and more into the shadow side of myself I suppose)

Now I am a reiki loving hippy lightworker and would faint at the thought of such things! Grin
