I need some ideas for songs/hymns to use for something my vicar has asked me to do. This is what she's said

"I'm doing Friday 21st Jan of the week of Prayer for Christian Unity. It's only 30 mins but what I wanted was a piece of music with either stills or video to help people focus on the need for Christian Unity, Homeless, Traffiking, war etc etc And then a different one for the end of hope and praise The first one can be about 7 mins and the last one 5mins."

I can do the stills/video thing - it's the songs I need ideas for. If needs be I can string two songs together so say there's a 3 minute one and 4 minute one I can do the video so they follow straight on. So it doesn't have to be one song.

Right now the only song/hymn that springs to mind is the hymn based on Luther Kings speech "We have a dream" - but I can't find it a recording of it anywhere online.

So any ideas of songs that would tie into those two themes - please Grin

(I will love you forever and even let you see the finished thing if you can come up with some fab ideas Wink)

ginger - I thought so, too.
The original has only one verse, but some "wise soul" decided it would sound better ad nauseum. I don't agree Grin
And i think it might only be in Anglican Hymsn Old and New with more verses.
Songs of Fellowship still only has one verse.

Hmm. Am thinking.
A few years ago the youth in our deanery did a service on "stop the traffik". Trying to remember the songs. one was and i am getting dh to wrack his brains as to the others....

erm

What about 'be thou my vision' for the latter one? There's a wonderful acoustic, contamplative version done by Michael Card, very thoughtful, affirmative one to end with.
Good luck! lots of good suggestions by other rposters too!
Also, have a look at taize 'when the night becomes dark...' sends a shiver down my soine even after hearing it for 20 years! Very powerful music to help people focus on the awful things happening around the word, and medative too. have seen it used to accompany visual presentations before.

scrappy I was going to say exactly the same. We've used Fix You for a few things like this.

I think that one advantage of songs like that over some of the more trad worship ones is that they build to a conclusion which fits in more with a presentation. Obviously that's a generalisation and if you get the right version of a trad one you get them same effect....

Just thought I'd update you all and thank you for all your help - I eventually went for "Your Raise me up" and "Days of Elijah"

\link{\this is the first one}

\link{\this is the 2nd one} that was used at the end.

2nd one not as good as the first - but hey it went down well so I shouldn't complain.
