Daily Bible Study

Just wondered if anyone uses any of the books you can get that guide you through daily Bible readings (the sort that are dated). If so, what do you use and would you recommend it (or any others).

I have this which is quite good (though I'm not very good at the 'daily' bit Blush )

It isn't dated, you can pick up / put down as you wish. It basically takes you through the whole Bible from beginning to end in 365 daily 'chunks'. Not sure if this is the kind of thing you are looking for?

I use "New Daylight", have tried "Daily Bread" before, but didn't like it as much.

I quite like New Daylight...I read a few days at one go and then go to the bible and read more widely aroung the pasage. I rage away sometimes and I struggle big time with lots of the things. I have two bibles. Both are NIV but one is a study bible which gives context and therefore better understanding of what I am struggling with! But sometimes I just want a straight bible and sometimes I just want a bitesize bit of New Daylight. For those reasons I cannot do the "daily"bit. Good luck with it - oh and scribble your thoughts/questions all over the bible you read,...it really helps!

this is good, it's meant to be read for a year but gives a good overview of the bible and God's plan in history.

The UCB daily notes are good and you can get them free on line I think.

Hope you find something good for you :)

I've tried a few different ones and like "Closer to God" the best - I've also tried "Explore", "Day by Day with God" and "Inspiring Women Everyday" (the last two are aimed specifically at women). Like LittlePushka I often read a few days together as I don't always manage to read every day or even every week Blush. I think different ones suit different people at different times - maybe try a couple and see which you like - I found the notes in Closer to God tend to stay on my mind afterwards rather then be forgtten immediately.

Thanks everyone. It is the ones like Closer to God and Daily Bread that I was thinking of - have memories of having similar ones aimed at teens many years ago.

I'll give Closer to God a try as the editor was one of the leaders on my Alpha course. He (obviously) recommended it but it is nice to have an outside person recommending it as well :)

We get something called Living Light through our church, which is a quarterly magazine which looks at bible readings weekly.

They pick a bible passage for the week, then one person picks it apart day by day - so one person will cover 7 days using the weekly bible reading for inspiration.

It's a great way of doing it - as each day is dated, but it means that you don't have to do it daily - we used to do it every day at dinner, but then found we just didn't have time, so on Saturday night, we go through the whole week.

here's a link for the people who do the mag
we get it on subscription and pay £3 per quarter.
