What to wear to a synagogue?

I am visiting a high orthodox synagogue. I will dress very conservatively but was wondering if any ladies could advise me as I don't want to cause offence.

Thanks!

No trousers

Wear below the knee skirt, no cleavage etc

Are you going for a service?

Thanks Ruby! No service. I am meeting with a synagoguge member with the hope to do an anthropology project with them (I'm doing an R.E degree). I want to explore how Judaism empowers women. I find the religion fascinating and want to make a good impression.

Shall I cover my head? (I'm married). Also, any other advice you could give me regarding talking to men? (i.e shaking hands, etc.).

Thanks.

You don't need to cover your head

If you are meeting with a man, then he won't shake your hand, so don't offer yours either (if orthodox)

Long or 3/4 length sleeves.
