are gods sexist?

Why are women so underplayed in most religions? What is the big deal about female priests etc?

Is there anyone on here who believes that this is actually a good thing? I don't understand.

Gods are sexist because they were invented by men.

Gods aren't sexist. Most religions are sexist to some extent because they are a human interpretation of what God (or the gods) want, and they reflect the culture and attitudes of those who set them up.

There are people in lots of Christian denominations who have worked hard to move things on, and are still doing so. But there's a lot of inertia and ground in opinions to struggle against to get anywhere.

So improvement is slow, but we're getting there. eg my denomination (Scottish Episcopal, strong links to CofE) has had women priests since 1994, allowed women bishops since 2002 (though we don't have any yet - we don't have many bishops so only one or two elections since the rules changed!) and have just brought out an order of service for communion whch uses inclusive language, not referring to God as "He" etc.

So it doesn't have to be that way, but there are a lot of people who don't like change, and/or enjoy being the gender that has more power, and/or have got so used to the unconscious sexism throughout society that they don't even notice it.

Read about women in the bible and you will see that women are very highly valued.

Women run the church where it matters.

My Goddess isn't sexist, at least she told me she wasn't!

Thew gods aren't; society's interpretation of them are.
