Christians - quick poll: alternative names for Sunday School

Just a quick question for Christians. If your church has a children's class/group/club, what is it called?

We have "Junior Church" which no-one likes very much, particularly the 14 year olds!!!

We are talking about fresh starts tomorrow, so it seems like a good time for a revamp, but I need ideas.

Children's Liturgy. I'm Catholic

Lotkinsgonecurly · 04/09/2010 10:15

Can the young people concerned come up with a name? Probably make it more attractive to them etc.

MrsCadwallader · 04/09/2010 10:16

We have 'Young Seekers' at our church, for children up to secondary age (ish!).

Secondary age children go to 'the Club' which (I think) actually takes place after the service.

Sorry to be vague about the ages..... My eldest is still only 7 so I've not had much to do with the older kids!

AllThreeWays · 04/09/2010 10:17

Three my old church have used were:
Children's church, the clubhouse and currently Kidsway

MentalFloss · 04/09/2010 10:26

Trailblazers, Explorers, and Sunday Club are what we have.

We have
"Beginners" (age 2-4)
"Building Blocks" (last year in nursery and p1)
"Kingdom Kids" (p2-7)
"Tracks" (secondary school)

The entire primary programme is known as "Kids Rock"

PotteringAlong · 04/09/2010 11:08

We called ours SPOT which stood for spirit of truth when I was in the teenagers bit many moons ago!

purpleturtle · 04/09/2010 11:11

Our teenagers group is called Fluid.

The younger ones are in Rock Solid, which is split into Gems, Pebbles, Stepping Stones and Boulder Gang.

Thanks everyone - that should get our creative juices flowing. (And yes, I have previously challenged the children to come up with something, but they have struggled. Hence the request for some ideas that we can borrow/adapt/build on!)

TotZone (creche)
MiniZone (3-5s)
KidZone
KidZone Plus
TeenZone

Smithagain · 05/09/2010 19:21

Well, we discussed it with the young people this morning. Everything with the word "Kid" in it was vetoed immediately. Likewise anything with "club" or "church" in the title.

Discoverers, Explorers and JAM (Jesus and Me) are the front runners at the moment.

hannahsaunt · 05/09/2010 19:42

We have JAM (Jesus and Me). Another local church has MAD (Making a Difference).

Notquitegrownup · 06/09/2010 10:23

Saw a group of teenagers at Legoland wearing "Sunday's kool" T shirts. Best name I've come across ever!

DandyDan · 06/09/2010 12:08

TRAX

madhairday · 09/09/2010 20:37

we have Bubbles and X-Stream but under the umbrella of an incredibly uninspiring title, ie sunday school. I am working swiftly to get it changed.
purple - New Wine church by any chance? Grin

Cicatrice · 09/09/2010 20:39

The Quest

I kid you not.

nickelbabe · 10/09/2010 12:22

our sister church had ExCiTe once.

I can't rmember what it stood for, but it was somethign like Exploring Christ something something.

maybe.

Maybe it would be worth giving them an actual ^name& rather than a "junior church" type name.

like Galaxy Group or something...

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 10/09/2010 12:26

Children's Litgury - I am RC and it is generally attended by kids of primary school age. I think it is a good description - it is exactly what it is (or meant to be anyway)

nickelbabe · 10/09/2010 13:07

it sounds quite grown-up, too, doesn't it - more suitable for teenagers.
:)

MmeBlueberry · 11/09/2010 16:23

We have very traditional CofE group names - Scramblers, Trekkers, Explorers and Pathfinders.
