sorry if it is a bit silly.
but if you fast during ramadan, do you have a feast before? like carneval or pancake day before chistian lent?

We have a feast afterwards called Eid Al Fitr. It's not a silly question btw Smile

mousymouse · 09/08/2010 17:17

so no feast before, then?
afterwards we have easter or christmas.

but carnival / pancake day isn;t religiously mandated (iyswim), just cultural

and who fasts before christmas? Never heard of that

mousymouse · 09/08/2010 17:29

it is traditionally a a christian fasting period starting on 12 november - ending christmas eve but hardly anyone does that. would be very hard with all the christmas baking/sweets around...

No feast before, but the meal at breaking of the fast each night is called iftar and they can be pretty sizable. You are encouraged to invite people round and share. In some Muslim countries they have big spreads out of for everyone.
