Child calling out in night

Please help me process something that has unsettled me.
Last night i was dreaming but i suddenly heard a loud voice call mommy. I immediately was wide awake and listening out to see if it was my son but it was not . I lay awake very for the next couple of hours feeling very anxious but it was very quiet. Do you think i could possibly have heard a child two doors away ?

As it has been warm and people will have their windows open, you probably did hear a child 2 doors away. i can hear every child in my neighbourhood sometimes.

depends on where you are, here it is so quiet at night that I could hear my child crying from many houses away when she was with DH and fell over on her way home.I do agree with the previous poster who said that as it is warm people have windows open.Much less likely if you are in a very noisy city, but even then possible at night.accoustics are strange ,we have a stream at the bottom of our garden and in the garden,or upstairs, you can't hear it at all.Go up to our attic room and open the window and it is really really loud!

It is quite a quiet road and i am fairly sure i had shut my window but i have always been very hypersensitive to any noise my son makes at night so maybe i could have picked up on a child a couple of doors down .
Thank you for your replies you are putting my mind at rest more.
