Just sat here on the sofa getting some last minute mumsnetting done before I walk DS to nursery and the dog just strolled upto me with the hamster. She hadnt hurt him, just carrying him, he was very wet aswell as if she has given him a very thorough cleaning!

What's even more shocking, is she is a Staffordshire bull terrier. a terrier! Normally she goes nuts if she sees a rodent of any kind!

Well that'll teach the hamster to escape wont it!!

Don't believe you.

Staffies will kill anything on sight. They just can't be trusted. Wouldn't have one in the same house... no, country as my precious hamster.

Thanks for sharing a lovely story with someone who has just spent a long weekend with some Staffies... and some Rotties... and some German Shepherds... and some Greyhounds... and a Malamute, a Bulldog, an Akita X and various other "dangerous" (ha ha) dogs.

I hope the hamster has dried off and isn't too shocked!

Im worried that it has unlocked some maternal instinct in her and she's going to be panting for some puppies now

My Mum has a staffie that carries everything round in his mouth. Used to carry the phone about

Your poor hamster must be in serious shock though!

I think the hamster was more disapointed than anything! He was probably thinking "yes! Freedom!" and then Baisey the hamster guard scuppered his plans! No doubt he'll try again tonight.

My parents used to regularly find various rodents who had been loved to death in our dogs bed (sopping wet not a mark on them).

This made me laugh - reminded me of years ago when I had a GSD and a hamster. The hamster was walking along the settee, the GSD made it's mouth into a tunnel at the end of the sofa, and let the hamster walk in, when we opened up her mouth, the GSD went off and sulked like 'that's so unfair that was fair game it walked into my mouth I didn't go for it'

DH once came home to find our mastiff trying to give the kiss of life to a dead mouse.
We think the cat had brought it in and she was trying to revive it
