help - advice for puppy

I'm sure I might have mentioned that I have found a puppy

Well, I have a question about it.
I have a holiday booked so there is a little confusion as to when I should get him.
Would it best to leave him with the breeder until I get back when he will be 11 weeks old.
Or, should I get him at 7 weeks, get his injections done and start house training, bonding with us. I will be with him for 12 days before going away for 2 weeks. During my 2 weeks away, I will either send him to someones house or someone will stay at my house with him. I will then be back home again for 10 days before having to go back to work.

So, which is best for pup?
Stay with breeder or come and live with me as soon as he is allowed? I know which I want, but I would prefer on what is best for pup.

This is of course assuming all is well when we finally get to meet him.

If the breeder is happy then stay there, the alternative is to have him home with you and ask the breeder if he can go back for your holiday.

I would leave him with the breeder personally. If the breeder is ok with it you could take over some things for him to get used to. Like a bed or some toys or something that smells of you to make the transition easier. Things that can come with him when he comes to live with you. I'm sure the breeder will get his injections done for you if you pay.

thats what I thought. I really want him but like I said, I will do what is best for him.
I am going to meet him on Saturday and won't be able to see him again until the day we go and get him.

I will have to find out about the breeder getting his injections done so we can start the walking and socialising as soon as we can. I wonder how much they will charge though? I know how much my vet charges in London but I never bothered comparing prices of other vets.

It might not be such a bad idea for the breeder to get injections done as I'm not overly happy to return to the vets where Moby died. I just know I am going to cry when I go in there again. Especialy when the vet does the speech 'Will you be getting him neutered?'
No I bloody well will not will be my polite answer!

but Moby would probably have died wherever he had gone. It wasn't neglegence that led to his death was it?
I feel the same at my vets but my dog died at a specialist centre in the end and it wasn't as sudden.
Hope you have a lovely time with your puppy on Saturday, at least if he is left with the breeder you won't have to worry about him while you are away.

I know he was going to die either way (well I found that out after he had died) and I don't blame the vet that performed the procedure. If anything, I feel sorry for him. It couldn't have been easy for him having to break the news to me.

I just have very bad memories of the place. Moby was as happy as he always was when I dropped him off there but I never got to see him again. The vet did offer to let me see Moby's body but I just couldn't do it. I still haven't been able to collect his lead and collar. It still breaks my heart that he is gone and not coming back.

I am hoping the new puppy can help me come to terms with it.

Definately leave with the breeder. Even if she wont do the injections it is not the end of the world. You can still socialise without the injections being done - just a lot of carrying around! Some people argue that having the vaccines done a bit later is a good idea anyway.

I know its best to leave him with the breeder deep down, but I really want him!
But, its not about me, its about whats best for him.

I am still hoping all goes well when we meet him. If anything is wrong, I will force myself to walk away. Good job DH will be there, he is the sensible one.

At last, I'm going to meet him today. Just getting ready to start our long journey. I'll be home in about 8 hours!
