What's the best way to clean out a rank fish bowl?

Last week my dad furnished DS with a goldfish bowl complete with some random minnow-type fish he'd got from a pond, weed and snails.

Since then, all three fish have died leaving me with a bowl full of snail poo, rancid water and aforementioned weed and snails.

I don't know where to start. I guess I can't just flush it all down the loo! What do I do with the water? What about the snails? Ugh, I can't bear it - please help!

Can you put the snails back in a pond? Or a washing up bowl will do, as long as it's outside. You can put the weed in there too. Chuck all the water on the garden, it's great plant food (don't chuck it on anything you are planning to eat though). Also, do not put any more fish in the bowl, bowls are terrible, terrible homes for fish. If your DS wants some fish then you need to get a large-ish tank with a filter and set it all up properly. It takes ages but it's not too complicated and it'll mean no more dead fish

Thanks, the deed is done.

Don't worry, I won't be getting any more fish. With a baby due in a fortnight, the last thing I need is more mouths to feed and poo to clear up! Have tactfully told dad so hopefully no more surprise pets.

Crikey, yeah you don't want any more work! Good luck with the new baby
