Can the guinea pigs still play out when it is really hot outside?

I don't want them getting over heated.

Not in the sun.

We left ours in the run one year, with water and everything, for just a couple of hours whilst we went to the village fete. They were obviously seriously overheated when we returned and we had to get vets advice. We cooled them down with a tepid bath.

The oldest one (who was pretty old anyway - over 6, but we weren't planning on losing him) died that night.

I have never again put them in the run on a hot sunny day.

You can put the run in the shade, or drape a large wet towel over it to reduce the heat for them.

I´m still putting mine out.
They have a house to go in & I also put an old curtain over to create shade.

If I´m here I put the curtain over part of the run & move when necessary.
If going out, put curtain over whole thing.

Cute title - can they 'play out', lol

Sorry to hear that musicposy , but thanks for telling us. I will make sure I choose a shady spot

Mine have a seriously cool run -- it's covered with an offcut of reflective under-floor matting, shiny side up. It's almost black under there, and even Hairy Dougal Pig is out pottering about in the shade.

Not sure what the passing aircraft make of our Reflector Run, though.

Lancelottie-have just found something reflective-would never have thought of using it-great tip.

I my daughter has a couple of Texels so they can get hot with that coat!
