DD's cat was nocked over & killed earlier today - life is just not fair

I know it's small in the scheme of things

But it is so unfair - she really has enough to deal with atm

We haven't told her yet - she will be back from school at about 4

I'm so sorry for you, will be really hard breaking the news but hope you will find the right words.

Butterbur · 25/06/2010 14:19

It's not a small thing at all. Our lovely 3 year old tom was run over three years ago, and we still all miss him.

I take it from your post that you're not the cat person in your house. To your daughter it may well be second only to losing a member of her immediate family, and it may take some time for her to come to terms with it. Just be there for her with lots of hugs and sympathy and let her cry. Avoid saying anything along the lines of "well it's only a cat" or "no, animals can't go to heaven" etc.

Maybe in a few months, she'll be ready to give another cat/kitten a home.

KatyMac · 25/06/2010 14:23

I am very definitely a cat person we lost our beloved Romeo earlier in the year & this cat & her sister were rescue replacements

But DD has so much to deal with atm

Hassled · 25/06/2010 14:23

Oh I'm so sorry. Poor, poor DD.

IndigoSky · 25/06/2010 14:24

Oh your poor dd. She really has so much to deal with and this will be an awful shock for her.

FabIsGettingFit · 25/06/2010 14:25

Oh no .

Have you time to buy her a cheer up present? I know it can't compare with losing her cat though.

bumpybecky · 25/06/2010 14:26

Oh no

I'm sorry Katy and very sorry for your dd. She's having such a hard time

Butterbur · 25/06/2010 14:28

Obviously I'm very sorry for you too Katy, and I'm sure you'll know just the right things to say.

KatyMac · 25/06/2010 14:43

Her sister just came in - she sniffed all around, then climbed into the box with her and licked her a bit, all hunched up with her tail fluffed out

Then she slunk upstairs hissing

Thank you everyone for being so sympathetic - DD will be home in half an hour & I dread telling her

OP posts:
FabIsGettingFit · 25/06/2010 15:33

Does the cat normally go to her when she comes in?

KatyMac · 25/06/2010 15:40

Not always she was often out on a prowl

But DD always went looking for her

OP posts:
KatyMac · 25/06/2010 15:56

Oh it was awful - back later

OP posts:
FabIsGettingFit · 25/06/2010 16:27

Oh no.

KatyMac · 25/06/2010 16:37

Why do bad things happen to me?

I don't have a photo & if I did I couldn't see it

I can't see her before we bury her

Why did she have to die?

It's not fair

OrmRenewed · 25/06/2010 16:42

Sorry

kid · 25/06/2010 16:47

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat, it really is like losing a member of the family.
I know it's no consolation right now, but I promise it does get easier with time. I know because I have been through it recently myself.

Hope the pain of your loss eases soon x

electra · 25/06/2010 16:49

so sorry for you and your dd.

KatyMac · 25/06/2010 17:01

2 cats in 6 months & a chicken too - she really doesn't have much luck

KatyMac · 25/06/2010 17:13

KatyMac · 25/06/2010 19:30

I just dropped her at her grandparents & they are surprised at how little she is reacting

Poor poppet

Poor sister cat (non-dom one) is crawling round the house mewing & whimpering

I have never heard a cat whimper before

I don't know how to help her

OP posts:
kid · 25/06/2010 22:36

lots of cuddles, a favourite toy or treat maybe?
I don't know but I hope she settles soon and that the rest of you are okay too

edam · 25/06/2010 22:40

oh Katy, I'm so sorry. Life is fucking unfair. Poor dd and poor moggy.

When one of my cats died, the remaining cat was very upset for a while, but gradually came round. Lots of fuss, lots of attention, lots of treats?
