So was walking today with a friend and her dog who told of how another dog that she goes walking with is obsessed with her dog, to the point where it eats his pooh... The other day it actually ate it as he was doing it. Apart from being fucking grim, what is the reason for this? Are there are any dog psychologists on MN? I know it's a rather vile topic, but I am genuinely interested as to what this is all about.

Hi My lab does it sometimes, I think its to do with if there is undigested food left in it they can smell it and then it eat...It is revolting, his is not only dogs, its cat, rabbit, horse and cow and probably human if he got the chance oh and fox too which is the most foul substance on the planet he rolls in that too. Dont know why we have him really the sort of dog only a mother could love...

My dog does this too and I haven't got a clue why either!

Could be diet, sometimes if diet is to low in protien then they will look for other sources. If it's their own pooh try adding pinneapple or tinned pumkin to food.
