Does anyone have an Irish Setter called Merlin?

I know it's a random question, but I have met 3 in the last few weeks.

Do dogs names get fashionable in the same way baby names do?

Apparently, last I read on the subject at least, Max is the most common popular name for a male dog.

(Sorry Max, don't blame me darling, blame your previous owner!).

I don't know an IS called Merlin, but I do know a Greyhound Merlin.

colditz · 21/06/2010 00:45

Vallhala do you live in Shropshire?

Vallhala · 21/06/2010 00:49

Nope, neither does the Merlin Greyhound! East Anglia here and Merlin lives near Swansea.

colditz · 21/06/2010 00:50

My grandad has a greyhound called Merlin!

I have seen a black lab on a rehoming site called Merlin and a black lab on another rehoming site called Max. They are both gorgeous and I want them both. Don't think my elderly cats would be too impressed though.

Merlin is an excellent name imo.

Vallhala · 21/06/2010 01:08

My Max is a black Lab cross!

ThistleWhistle · 21/06/2010 14:14

Vallhala this is the Max I would love, scroll down to the bottom.

My friend had a deerhound called Merlin when we were teenagers - tis an excellent big dog name.

Vallhala · 22/06/2010 19:08

Ahh, Max is cute but my vote would have to go with the GSD crosses or that pair of Am Bulls, Thistle.

booyhoo · 22/06/2010 20:51

what is a deerhound. that is the first time i have ever heard of one. off to google it.

booyhoo · 22/06/2010 20:53

ah, are they also known by a different name?

specialmagiclady · 22/06/2010 20:55

I will fight you for that Max!

ThistleWhistle · 23/06/2010 11:36

Vallhala my DH is scared of dogs so I need to get a non-scary looking one. He wouldn't agree to a GSD or any of the SBT's which is a shame. It is so sad that they are the ones that have already been there for some time. I keep telling him it's important that the DC's have dogs when they are little so they don't grow up afraid of them like he is.

specialmagiclady Max is mine I tell you! I keep looking every day to see if he is still there even though I know I can't have him. Will be but when he has gone. Off to check the website now....

Must just be me with the Irish setters then.

Mind you, FIL breeds them, so I meet a fair few.
