Dog Toys

We have a lovely black lab who is 18 months old, he loves his toys but destroys them all really quickly I have looked around for toys that are more hardy but he is excellent at chewing them up!
He currently has a half chewed kong in his mouth with bits of rubber all over the living room.
Any ideas anyone please?

I was going to suggest a kong but after reading your whole message, I see he is able to destroy them too!

There must be different types of kongs, maybe there is one that he can't destroy?

Have you tried a Black Kong? My stafford couldn't chew through those.

Also Nylabones for powerful chewers and Boomer Balls are fantastic though a bit more of an outside toy, but really are one of the best dog exhausters ever.

Also Planet Dog stuff is new and very good (the tough ones not the teddies obv.)

I have a lab who is just the same.

Nylabone is out most lasting chew toy. The tight, large rope balls also last a little longer than most things.

Rope tugs. Some people say that they can cause unwanted behaviour but I've never experienced this. I have 2 dogs so they play tug of war together and chase each other madly up the garden but they also play tug with me. My GSD plays fetch with it beautifully, my Lab boy won't give it back!

They're not totally indestructable but they last a lot longer than a lot of toys.

I'd also second black Kongs and nylon bones although not all dogs will take to the bones ime.

Thank you
Will try the black kong and you have reminded me about the boomer ball we used to have one till the dafty let it roll out to sea when the tide was in.
Rope tugs he loves and you are right they do seem to last a lot longer.
The soft toys, teddy bear like ones are all rubbish he loves them but wreckes them so quickly, costs me a bloody fortune, but he is more appreciative than the kids when he gets his goodies every week

We have the black for my chewer. It is only 1/3 gone. Which considering it is about 3 months old is remarkable. Toys usually last between 30seconds and an hour.

I also give plastic bottles and empty ice cream cartons for him to chew on.

Rope tug toys last him a few weeks too.

Big lumps of ice can be fun too. In the winter I give ours the lumps of ice from the bird bath and in summer I freeze ice-cream tubs of water and turn them out onto the grass. They don't last that long obviously, but she has great fun digging at them, skidding them about and chewing on them and they don't cost a thing!

Yeah great ideas!

sticks?

JW Pet manufacture some toys that our dog hasn't managed to destroy yet, and she is pretty good at reducing any ball to tiny bits within a few minutes.

We've got her the Amaze-a-ball and the Holl Eee Roller ball, both of which have lasted months and months. I got them both from Pets at Home.

I think it's a combination of fairly indestructable rubber and the fact that they are a bit squishy so she can chew on them lots and do lots of biting movements without encountering sufficient resistance to actually destroy them.
