OK we have managed to survive the 2weeks wait & tomorrow is the day we get to bring our new puppy home
Any hints on helping him to settle ? I feel guilty taking him away from his mum ,
And how do i get two very excited children to sleep tonight
TIA

Ooohhh, he is adorable . Enjoy every moment!

Alouiseg · 11/06/2010 20:41

I have puppy envy

kid · 11/06/2010 23:18

I thought he might be a springer. Watch how big those ears grow, bet he is going to get more and more handsome each and every day. All puppies are cute, but IMO, springers stay cute forever! I am totally biased though

I am desperately wanting a puppy. Still looking at rescue homes just incase there is a special dog for me. But I am tracking down breeders too. Can't believe most are charging between £600 - £900 for a cocker spaniel. Could be a bit out of my league tbh , but we shall see what happens.

Have you seen my dearly departed puppy on my profile? I tried uploading more photos but they won't upload for some reason.

elmofan · 12/06/2010 10:50

Hello to all Kid i would love to see pictures of your puppy , have you tried to make your profile public ?

Ahh kid , you will never stop loving your poor puppy & tbh we were planning to get Oscar neutered when he is older but after you telling us what happened to your puppy we have decided against neutering . It took 3 months of research for me to find Oscar , but his breeder is very good & Oscar came with a whole puppy pack & a vet checked certificate of health which made us feel more secure knowing she was a professional breeder iykwim , There is a puppy out there just waiting for you & when the time is right you will find him/her .
Oscars breeder was texting me a lot yesterday asking how he was getting on etc so that was nice we have promised to stay in touch & email her lots of photo's of him .
Alouiseg you would not have envied the mess i had to clean up this AM

Kid whereabouts are you? I am near Cambridge and I know someone with some Cocker pups. They were ready to go on the 10th.
I can give you her number if you are interested. They are golden colour from working lines.

kid · 12/06/2010 17:23

I'm in east London am am willing to travel. How far is Cambridge though?! Trouble is, I'm not back from holiday until late august so wanted to get a puppy then so we could do lots of socialising together in the early days.
Will still look into how far away your friend is though as it is an option.

I had a dream last night that we got a puppy. We were trying to think of a name for it and came up with Snowy, Honey or Smithy. When I told DH this morning, he said no to all 3 names but no mention of no to another puppy! So, it's definite, we are going to get one. I think that makes me happy. Of course I'd happily have moby back bit I know that can not happen so we need to look towards the future.

Elmofan, I know exactly how you feel about getting oscar neutered. Despite what happened to moby being very, very rare, it still happened and broke all of our hearts. We aren't totally over it and whether he was neutered or not, moby was going to die young. It's a very small blessing that it happened while he was at the vets and not with me and DC. If he could have been saved, the vet would have saved him. It just wasn't meant to be.

I'd hate anyone else to lose a dog in the same way, but I'd also hate a dog to suffer because he wasn't neutered. People will need to research it carefully before reaching a decision rather than think if moby and rule out neutering. I totally understand both views and would never judge eitherway.

I thought my profile was public, not sure though. If anyone wants to add me on fb, email me kt8cs5(at)yahoo.co.uk and I'll give my details there. We have a moby album on there!

kid · 12/06/2010 18:29

just made profile public

elmofan · 12/06/2010 18:56

kid, Email me at jmadaboutcats at aol dot com if you decide you would like details

kid · 12/06/2010 19:03

Cambridge is about 1 1/2 hours drive away. Not too bad for the right dog, just a shame with dates. If those puppies were ready to go on the 10th I'm assuming they are about 8 weeks old. Its still 10 weeks until I can collect a dog, so the dog would be 18 weeks old by then
The other option would be to get the puppy now, have him for 8 weeks and then send him back to the breeder for 2 weeks? That just seems far too confusing for a little puppy as 2 weeks would seem forever for him (and me!)

I reckon it will be best to wait a little longer so I can get a dog after my holiday. I am very impatient though, I am amazing myself that I haven't got a dog already. I have definitely decided to get one though. I see prodogs website have cocker spaniels coming soon. They have been advertising that for ages and I am checking several times a day! I sent the letter back to the HA today requesting permission to get a dog. They will receive it Monday and have to reply within 10 working days so fingers cross on that.

kid · 12/06/2010 19:06

just looked at your new photos, oscar is lovely.

Moby was liver and white but looked black and white in photos. The older he got, the lighter his head got! The white stripe on his face between his eyes was right in the centre when we got him. As he got older, it started going off to one side!

kid · 12/06/2010 20:03

I just managed to add more photos of Moby

elmofan · 12/06/2010 20:04

lol @him in the water , looks such a happy pup .

i'm feeling okay looking at his photos today. Might not be the same tomorrow but today I am fine! He was so happy. I wonder if your puppy will be the same when he wags his tail, his whole bum used to wiggle!

elmofan · 12/06/2010 20:15

lol yy we were only laughing at his bum wagging earlier , kid you have so much love waiting to give your new puppy x

Spoke to DH today, he is keen on springers more than cockers. Oh well, who am I to argue as I love both breeds equally

elmofan · 13/06/2010 14:09

I agree but I'm biased lol

I have had two golden cockers , our first one was a beautiful dog but our second one was very vicious
Have never met a vicious springer though .

Kid - Thanks for making your Moby photos public. He was a gorgeous puppy. My cockapoo Patch also wiggles his bottom when he wags his tail. It is such a spaniel thing.

kid · 13/06/2010 18:32

All puppies are gorgeous, so are most dogs but spaniels are extra special.

I am 100% definitely getting a springer spaniel. Just have to wait permission from HA and then there will be no stopping me. Just need to track a healthy one down that's not too far from us. But tbh, i'm willing to drive a fair distance. Only problem is, if it's far away, we won't really be able to visit pups.

I'm getting really excited now and even have a few names in mind. Need to calm down though and at least wait fir HA letter. 10 working days and counting!

fruitshootsandheaves · 14/06/2010 21:32

I would thoroughly recommend the breeder that we got our springer from but he is in the Lake District!
We travelled from Suffolk to get him. We were lucky that we were up there on holiday so we went to see bitch and dog before the puppies were born.
The breeder sent us good photos of all the pups when they were born, he is also a gundog trainer and takes on problem dogs.
Our springer has a brilliant temperament and if when I get another I will go to the same breeder.
I went through the whole of the Champdogs website to find a springer after I lost my first one.
Good Luck with your search! There are pics of mine on my profile.
